So, last year I was on a job site and saw a guy I knew from a long time ago. He was a few pack a day smoker and I thought, “A smoking buddy!” Ask him if he wants to go have a smoke and off we go. I take out my Camels and he takes out a contraption I had never seen before and he tell me he quit smoking 2 years ago, from two packs a day to zero overnight and never went back. And so began my mostly sad vaping journey.

Marched off that weekend to a store and bought an eGo with customizers and, by an amazing stroke of luck, an ejuice that I thought tasted just awesome. Threw my ciggerates away and just vaped. I was very pleased. Then I went back to the store to get more of the awesome juice and it was gone. Madly tried various juices and all were garbage to me. I was back on cigarettes in 24 hours.

Six months ago my wife pushed me to give it another go, so I bought a Vision Spinner and some ProTank 3’s from a local shop on their recommendation and luckily found a Vanilla flavor that I found tolerable. But then the equipment problems began. Not enough draw, inconsistent taste, coil failures, etc... Lasted maybe a week and was back to cigarettes. The one thing about a cigarette, even if I am in northern Afghanistan or southern Argentina, the delivery device is the same and the taste is almost the same.

Now six months later still, I am back with a mission to try one last time to work through these issues. Taste is a tough one, and I realize that it might take some time to get to a juice that will allow me to throw the cowboy killers in the trash for good. But that is the second step. First is finding a delivery system that actually works. The catalyst for this was meeting a guy on a job site that was vaping and his advice for better taste and simpler delivery was to drip or mechanical bottom feed. He said that he had had all the same issues that I was having and that all his mechanical problems vanished when he went to the thing he was holding, a wood box with a hole cut in it to squeeze a bottle that somehow delivered the juice. Cannot recall the brand, but he called it a mechanical bottom feeder. He also said, “Google ECF Forum, just do that, like now.”

So here I am, member of ECF for about an hour, starting to sift through vast information. I hope it proves fruitful this time with the knowledge that a huge community I had not known existed can provide. As for now, still smoking, yearning to be done with it but unwilling to let go of a habit that has gripped me for so long. Pointers to what areas of the forum I might begin with appreciated.

/salute

Hello and welcome to the forum. Glad to have you here!:)

He said that he had had all the same issues that I was having and that all his mechanical problems vanished when he went to the thing he was holding, a wood box with a hole cut in it to squeeze a bottle that somehow delivered the juice. Cannot recall the brand, but he called it a mechanical bottom feeder.

Then you would be describing a Reo! A Reo is a bottom feeding dripper with a onboard tank. REOSmods - Which REO and Atomizer is for me?

I have one LP (low profile) Reo Grand and 4 of their Woodvil's (limited run item).

Woodvil #4 - Bubinga:Maple Front.jpgWoodvil #4 - Bubinga:Maple Inside.jpg

If you think you might be interest in a Reo, come on over to the Reosmods Forum and browse around. Lots of information and lots of very friendly members to help you if you have any questions.

Hey man, I know your struggle. I have gone through various e-cigs and vapes and have finally found two vendors and a vape that keep me off cigarettes. I have not bought a pack in over 10 months. As for where to look on the forums, I would love to help but I am new aswell. Though, can I give you some hints of where to look for some juice that will satisfy you and possible setups that YOU WILL NOT regret. As for flavors, take a look at nicoticket and blends by bryce. Nicoticket has a wide variety of fair priced, high quality liquids that have won many awards from this forum (which is what brought me here) and bryce makes some amazing dessert flavors. As for a vape, I would not recommend a basic mechanical mod. If you are looking to get 1 setup that will do everything, I would go with the IPV2 (My current vape) which is a variable voltage box mod that you can use with both RDA and Tanks. I use mine with an Atlantis tank for driving/on the go and a dark horse RDA (I do not recommend this RDA) and it has kept me satisfied. I also hear that you can't go wrong with REO's. Good luck with your search on the forums though, this is just my two cents.

First of all.........YOU CAN DO THIS! And congrats for keeping trying. :)

The spinner is really not powerful enough to use with a dual coil protank, not ideally, so not suprised you had problems.

The "box" the guy you saw sounds like a bottom feeder, most likely a REO. I was not able to quit til i got a bottom feeder, so maybe head over to reoville and check out videos, etc.

A LOT of people love the MVP2 and the newer istick/eleaf and I would recommend that too since it is cheaper. with a good aerotank or nautilus or something on top?

Congratulations on giving it another try! You can do it! A few questions you would need to answer would be:
-How much do you currently smoke?
-What is your budget?
-What kind of flavors do you like? (tobacco, fruit, sweet?)

Like everyone else is saying, the mechanical mod he has is more than likely a Reo. A lot of people don't recommend jumping into mech mods, however. A really good combo would be the istick 20W or 30W (or mvp) and a nautilus mini tank. I have read a lot of people finding success with quitting on an uncomplicated setup. I would suggest doing that before jumping into mech mods and dripping. Good luck! :)

Welcome!

I would recommend you start with an Eleaf iStick or an MVP 20w. For a tank, a Nautilus mini. If you can, buy 2 of each, just in case.

The juice you buy will depend on your particular tastes. Finding one you like is probably the hardest part of vaping. Make sure you buy some different strengths like 18mg/ml and 24mg/ml.

Hafaza, I won't be able to help you when it comes to equipment, I've been vaping for just a week on a starter Evod kit, which for me has helped.
I'm already looking looking for that better puff. But; one thing I've learned in my short time on this forum is that you will find support.
I've dealt with many of the major vices, gambling, booze, smokes etc and the way I've found success in alleviating the first 2 was support.
I'm optimistic that both of us will find that needed support on these boards, this is from a chain smoker of 50 years.
Good luck, my friend!

What you are looking for, is a REO. It is a bit of a jump for a newbie, but it skips a whole lot of headaches. Here's how it works:
This is a mechanical mod. That means it is pretty much a battery and a switch in a box, no electronics to burn up when you least expect it, durable as all get out.
Usually you would pair this with a bottom fed RDA, or rebuildable dripping atomizer. This is little more than metal posts to attach wire to with some holes for air and juice.
You would make your own coils from resistance wire, and wick them with your choice of fiber material (usually cotton or rayon). this makes it very cheap to operate, very reliable, and easy to fix any issues you run into.
The bottom fed means that it carries a bottle inside the battery box that you squeeze to dispense juice into the atomizer, so you don't have to carry a separate bottle around with you. This solve the issues that many experience with temperamental tank style atomizers.

There is a learning curve to this, the enablers that call themselves REOnauts will be more than happy to teach you.

Thank you for the pictures Susan~S, that in fact looks like the device that the guy I was talking to showed be briefly. I will find my way to the Reo area thanks for the directions...

Awesome, thanks for the double down on pointing to a device that seems like what I was looking for. More reading to see if it is right. And yes, though I do not not know all the issues, something was/is wrong with my Spinner/Protank3 setup. Just did a flash of reading and there seems to no have been some changes in the ProTank3. I can see there is more hours of reading here than I can expend, lol.

/cheers

Hey Eliterep. -Currently (after long struggle) down to between 5 -15 a day.
-My budget is far less then what I consider my health and self esteem is worth, so I will not cheap out :)
-And so far the things that did not taste awful where mostly sweet. The first juice I spoke of was called a cafe mocha, which I liked. Now using a Vanilla part time since it is not ideal. Think it is a combo issue with Nic-level, device, PG/VG ratio(?). I have sworn off buying any more vendor juices as I think the road to nirvana lies through DIY. Actually, may have got that wrong. Road to hell perhaps...

fixed your title :)

I am humbled.

I tool a quick google look at Reo. I actually like the idea of minimalist. I am tech (electrical enginner) savy, but I practice at home what I preach at work most of the time, which is, "If there is simpler way to do it, then you did it wrong." So much of what I have seen in very limited time in vaping, well, let me wait on that for a bit longer.:)

Thank you everyone else that replied with encouragement and advice!

Welcome! I have no advice on equipment as I find it can be fairly subjective what people prefer. I had to try several tanks and liquids for a year or so before I finally liked a combo that I liked, as many people do, so don't be discouraged if you keep going back. I'm finally on week 3 of no cigarettes and this is from smoking on and off for 24 years. This was the easiest time I've had quitting, too. Also remember all of the experts say that most people try several times to quit cigarettes before they are successful. Best of luck!

Congrats on continuing to try and quit the stinkies. I smoked for 30 years and the last 5 years was 2 PAD. When I started to vape I used the MVP 2.0 and then added the Eleaf iStick and topped both with the Kanger Aero Tank 2.0 (See pics below)

Both have PLENTY of power to help eliminated the cravings and BOTH have been consistent and NO Problems. Easy to charge and the batteries charged last for a good 2 days and I vape about 5 ml a day. (2 tanks of juice for the Aero Tank). They are small easy to carry & use ... In the pictures below I've put a business card next to them to give you an idea of their compact ... but powerful size.

They are great priced and you can get either set up with the Aero tank for about $50 to $60 complete.
