Hello and welcome back for another review. This time I am excited to present a review on the SXmini SL Class V2 mod that was sent to me by sourcemore in order to provide you with a fair and honest review. I’ve been wanting to test this one for a while and was happy that sourcemore agreed to provide it. The V2 is able to use a single 18650/20700/ or 21700 battery. The chipset for this one is the SX730J which provides a waterproof design while offering Watts/ Voltage/ and Temperature Control modes. The display is a .96” color display and there is a 100W maximum output.

    INITIAL THOUGHTS:

The packaging for the V2 is simple but nice. The front of the outer sleeve has a nice color picture of an SL V2 but not necessarily of the actual color contained inside. There is a fairly large nicotine warning on the front even though we all know that there is no nicotine in the mod. Thanks to the government for these ridiculous warnings required on hardware packages. The back of the outer sleeve has a contents list and a second warning.

Once the sleeve is removed then the box opens from one side to expose a small envelope which contains the user manual and warranty card. Underneath that is the mod in a nice foam insert and the included USB cable in a box below the mod. I received the gunmetal tang version for this review. I simply love the looks of it.

I recently reviewed the SXmini MQ Class mod and was impressed by the quality of the mod. I was also impressed by the appearance and build quality of the SL V2. I am a big fan of single 21700 mods and this is a really nice one. I tend to be a wattage only vaper so can’t attest to how the temperature control works on this one but Yihi SXmini is known to have well performing temperature control chips.

The SL V2 has a really nice weight to it without being too heavy. It just feels like a really solid well-built mod. The outer frame is a polished finish while the inner frame where the screws are has what almost appears to be a hammered finish. It really adds to the aesthetic of the mod. The wrapped part has what almost looks like a floral pattern. There is a metal plate on the back with the SXmini name on it. I really don’t notice the plate while holding it for use. It really has a nice hand feel.

The 510 connection plate on top is held in place by two torx head screws and allows up to a 27mm atomizer base without overhang. That allows nearly all of the tanks that I have to fit without overhang. While testing, I have been using an iTank which I think looks pretty decent on the mod. The 510 pin is plated and spring loaded.

As I mentioned earlier, the SL V2 can use 18650, 20700, or 21700 batteries. An 18650 adapter tube is included and comes inside the mod. The inside of the knurled bottom cap has a – sign on it to indicate battery polarity. The opening in the mod does not have a polarity marking. The center of the inside of the battery cap is raised to allow space in case the battery needs to vent through the six vent holes in the cap.

The V2 has an upgraded chipset and display compared to the original SL version. The chipset is the SX730J and the display is an IPS (In Plane Switching) which means the colors are more accurate. The display shows the following information.

    • Battery meter
    • Current curve
    • Battery Percentage
    • Set wattage
    • Puff counter
    • Coil resistance
    • Curve graph
    • Output voltage
    • Output current under load
The fire button sits near the top and has a nice clicky feeling and sound to it. Below the color display is the joystick which is used instead in place of the normal + and – buttons found on most mods. It does have some different functions which I’ll cover shortly and can also be pressed to make selections. The operation is as follows.

    • Press the fire button 5X to turn on the mod
    • Once the mod is powered up, press the fire button 5X to enter the menu where you can choose between
    • Mode select ( Wattage, Temperature, Variable voltage)
    • Puff counter
    • Tweaks (Screen brightness, restore factory defaults, adjust average room temperature, auto power( on or off)
    • Show temperature in Celsius or Fahrenheit
    • Screen timeout ( Between 15-90 seconds)
    • The menu can also be accessed by holding the joystick to the right for 3 seconds
    • Press the fire button 3X to completely lock/unlock the mod ( will not fire)
    • Press the joystick to the left to return to previous screen
    • Push the joystick down to switch between Soft, Normal, Strong, and the three preset curves

    FINAL THOUGHTS:

I have to say that I am very happy with the Yihi SXmini SL V2 mod and would definitely recommend. It has a ton of features that I personally will never use all of since I am a pretty simple vaper and only use wattage mode. I did try the soft, neutral, and strong modes and could definitely tell the difference between the soft and strong modes. I didn’t really notice a big difference between the three preset curves but did feel like the second one was a bit stronger than the other two.

Overall, I really like the appearance of the mod but could honestly do without the plate on the back with the SXmini name on it. The threading on the battery cap seemed smooth enough but could do with a little more aggressive knurling on the cap as my hands are a little slippery on it. I don’t use temperature control but the mod will handle Ni200 or SS316l coils. You can also set 20 bars on the power curves and they are adjustable between 0-150 percent. Each one represents .5 seconds of vape time.

To me the mod has a great hand feel and the fire button position is perfect for me. The display is really sharp but with my old eyes, some of the numbers could be a little larger. The V2 has what I consider to be a nice medium weight to it. It is heavy enough that it has a feeling of a good quality mod without being too heavy. The only con I have is that you have to go through the menu system to shut the mod off instead of the normal five presses of the fire button

I’d like to thank Sourcemore for providing the Yihi SXmini SL V2 mod for this review. It has been a real pleasure testing it. I like that the mod can be used as simple or complicated as the user chooses. Also thanks to the readers for checking out my review. Below is a link to the website for your viewing pleasure. I was also given a discount code in case you want to get one yourself.
