I have not had a cigarette since a week ago yesterday when I bought my first e-cig. I started out with 18mg and did fine, I didn't even want a cigarette which really surprised me as a long time smoker. I have been vaping a lot (or so I think) and found at the end of the day maybe I was getting too much nicotine. So Friday I went to the local shop and got some 12mg but also got 18mg just in case I needed it. I also got a second starter kit for back up and extra charger etc. I have been using the 12 mg since then, almost 2 days.

Yesterday was fine but all of a sudden today, I really want a smoke! This is where the YIKES comes in! I have topped off my tank which only had a little left with 18mg in hopes it helps. I am really feeling shaky and don't like this at all but I don't want to give in and have that smoke I want either. Is it normal to feel this way after a week or is it lack of nicotine?

Hello :) It takes a while for the body to adjust. There's a lot of chemicals in burning cigarettes. That stuff has to clear out. If you're feeling shaky, maybe try a little juice. Be sure to drink lots of water. The first 2 weeks are the hardest, and you're halfway there. I am not a doc or medical professional. Just someone who's been there. Good luck and I hope you feel better soon :)

I had that experience like the first 6 months I was vaping. I suspect there's something other than nicotine in cigarettes our bodies have gotten used to and crave. Some people can pick up vaping and never look back, but I found I was still having cigs about once a week until about a month ago and I could finally let them go. For some, it's a process. It helps to remember it's not the cig you occasionally smoke, but all the ones you don't due to vaping. Hang in there, it gets easier.

Your are going from getting through the physical addiction to cigs, working your way through the mental aspect of the addiction. You've just lost your best friend that's been with you for years, and he wants you back. Chances are high, if you picked up a smoke, it would taste like crap now.

What kind of vaporizer and atomizer are you currently using. You could be just experiencing the I need something more, phase of vaping. This was the stage that I started to upgrade. Looking for a better atomizer, battery device, better mix of juice..... Every time I found my self wanting more, I'd start the search for that more. Fortunately, after 5 months of vaping and not smoking, I have no desire to light one up. My focus now is creating the best build for my rba, and creating a great flavor combo with my DIY juices.

Just focus on today. Today I will vape and not smoke. Stay in the now and it's easy. Congrats on making it through today.

Don't give in! You were alright on 1,8mg so go back to that. It's good to have weaker juice around though. I have evenings where I basically chain-vape away and that's where you can use the weaker stuff. And like when I'm at work and only get to go out for a vape every hour or so, the stronger stuff satisfies my needs quite well. Might you even consider going up to 2.4mg just for those difficult moments? It would require you to have a couple of setups going in rotation but that's do-able.

[edit] yeah 2.4mg is too strong for me, but there are occasions when I can just take a couple tokes on that strength and I'm ok for a long while :)

This is the reason I bought the second start up kit. I now have 4 e-cigs so I could use 2 for 12mg and 2 for 18mg. I am determined not to give in, I really want to give those things up!

I'm going to give up the 12mg and see if this doesn't go away. After a few weeks I may use the 12mg in moderation but not full time because I don't want this happening again.

Don't be shy about upping your nicotine, even to 24mg, if that's what's necessary.

The big thing I always tell new vapers is something I wish I would have known about over a year ago when I switched:

NET( naturally extracted tobacco) juice. It's made from real tobacco leaf instead of just imitation flavors. That thing that you seem to miss when you come off of cigarettes is quelled with the NET juices.

Try this:
Quick nic Juice - Quality E-liquid made in the U.S.A. Better your habit... One drop at a time

and here(they have a sale, now, ends today)

www.Naturally-Extracted-Tobacco.com, e-liquids for electronic cigarettes

I think you will be very happy with the results.

I've gone from 18mg to 24mg to 36mg, made me way to dizzy, back down to 24, then to 18mg, then I got an rba, and doing coil builds, now down to 13mg, mainly because the rba delivers nicotine more efficiently than my protank ever could. The eVods a good starter tank. might want to check out the thread on the mini Nova BDC tanks, getting great reviews and is a decent price. ~$10

You can do it! Congratulations, you'll like the vaping community. We are all here for each other and that mutual support is an amazing gift :)

And, by the way, when you switch, if you slip and have a stinky, don't freak out. Like was said already, they will taste totally nasty. I had a few drags from a cigarette about a week and a half after I quit.

It was nasty, nasty, nasty! I needed to see if there was still a want of the stinkys.

There wasn't :D

Fiddle with the nic, find what feels good, don't worry about it for a while. You don't need to quit Nicotine, just cigarettes.
You can mix the 12 and 18 to get something in-between too...
And YES to drink a lot of water - heck, you might feel light-headed from dehydration. A LOT of side-effects for new vapers seem to actually be from dehydration!

Good luck - you're gonna get there if you're enjoying vaping.

A LOT of people succeed even without going "cold turkey" - so also don't beat yourself up if you end up having a cig.
I'll bet that within a few weeks, no matter what, they'll seem nasty to you - as in "what the heck was I liking about that stink?"

Totally normal. In my humble opinion I'd stick with the 18mg for now. I actually had to buy a small bottle of 24mg when I first started because I was getting those shaky moments where 18 just wasn't doing it. For me it only lasted a couple of weeks & then I went back to 18 exclusively. I just kept the higher nic on hand for when I needed it.

Unless you're feeling sick to your stomach or begin to get a headache or any of the other symptoms listed in the beginners info section (if you haven't checked it out make sure you do) then you're fine. It's also normal to feel like you're vaping wayyyy too much when you first start. The nicotine doesn't absorb into your system the same way a cig does so you vape more. And of course you're weening yourself off of all of those nasty chemicals that are in the cigs. Kudos to you as well for making sure you have a backup!

Congrats on making the switch! Hang in there! It gets better!

Thanks to you all! It really helps for someone who knows to say "it's normal". I have no other symptoms and I know I am fine. Just got real shaky for awhile and felt like OMG I need a smoke. I didn't give in even though they are within reach. LOL I was fine on the 12mg for a day and a half then it hit me. I'm going to stick with the 18mg. I know my body has to adjust to losing all the crap I was giving it before with those things so I'm going to wait a good month or so before I try to reduce again. When I do, I will do it slowly... very slowly.
