ZAP - When's it time to replace the wick?

I have been using the same wick on my ZAP for a month now and it still performs wonderfully. What should I expect to happen when it's time to build a new one?

For me, it was time to replace it when I crashed the top cap into it, when taking it off to refill.

it will stop working wonderfully, usually tasting like crap or getting ragged from recoiling. i say if it work fine leave it alone lol.
