I know folks who swear by the Zero but want to try the Play. Others say the Play or nothing.

I visited a vape shop for the first time a couple of weeks ago and everybody in the place was puffing on a Play. The owner had just received their first batch and other employees had tested them out and put away their full sized gear after trying them.

In the display case there was a bronze and a rainbow. I bought both and some replacements tanks. They had some Zero refills but no Zeros so I asked if they stock those. The owner said he sells out of those quickly. He said "I can't restock Zero's fast enough". It's a small shop so he orders like 5 at a time from his supplier. I used to buy from a chain who said they order 20 Zeros a month and sell out long before time to re-order.

So now that the Play is showing up in shops the Zero may stock may begin to collect dust for a while. For all intents and purposes the Play and Zero share the same genes. The vape experience is also very similar. So it really boils down to a size/weight preference or if the round versus duck bill tip is preferred.

I find the Zero duck bill feels more natural to me. Yet as a dual user the round tip'd Play thwarts the cigarette craving a bit better. Plus it's just cool to pull out the Play, click the top open with that famous Zippo sound, take a puff and close it with that familiar click and watch the crowd who assumed it was a cigarette lighter.

The Zero disappears in a pocket. If you're like me and carry coins, a knife and other small items everyday that is a virtue. In a shirt pocket you forget it's even there. Setting on your desk it looks like a usb device. There is no wrong way to install a new pod. And the push to fill port is virtually leak proof. Note I left a Zero in a vehicle with windows up for several days as a test and some juice had leaked out, yet the device still worked normal after cleaning the contacts.

The Play does not take up much more real estate than the Zero. But for shirt pocket carry is weighty enough to remember it's there. Setting on a desk it just looks cool all mingling in with a celphone, pens and papers. It becomes a conversation peice at times too. Especially with the seasoned folks. The top fill push to fill means it can be filled 'on the fly', which is much more convenient. And the honey colored window gives a much easier view of remaining juice versus the darker Zero tank. The pod install is pretty fool-proof.

I find production a wee bit better from the Play, but noteably smoother from the Zero with my style of drag effort. I always had issues with leftover unspent juice from full sized gear but have noted very little of that with the Play or Zero. And no spit-back at all. Both are pretty quiet. But for uber quiet stealth vape the Play is the way to go. An ever-so-slight pull from a Play gives a light amount of vape where the Zero requires more effort that results in a slight sucking sound.

Using a multi-texture juice I noticed the Play gives hints of the various flavors a bit better than the Zero with both set on medium. Not enough to choose the Play over the Zero forever. But it does seem the Play coil system does produce a wee bit better.

To me either one is reason for my full size gear to remain tucked away.

Who makes these? “Zero” and “ play” are very generic words to try to google

Dude...pass it to the left when you are done...

I have 2 Plays and 4 Zeros and they all get regular use. The Zeros have been relegated for my menthol/mint liquids. Been using some Five Pawns tobacco liquids in the play. The rational for this being I believe the flavor is better in the Play. I can taste different notes of the tobaccos in the Play where they are flat in a Zero. That's why the Zero is perfect for menthol liquids where I mainly want that cooling effects from the menthol/mint; the undertones of the liquid are not as important to me.

As for finishes, there is no noticeable wear and tear to the Plays. Probably as they as much newer than the Zeros. However, the original Zero I bought when it first came out, the silver one, has the finish worn off most of it. More than likely caused by dropping, losing, falling between the front seat and the counsel, and many trips in and out of pockets. It probably has gotten the most work out of any of the other ones I have. Outside of a gash in the green one from dropping on a sidewalk, the others have no real visible wear and tear.

I give the Play the edge when it comes to looks. I mean, really, it looks like a freakin Zippo and that's pretty darn cool. Not saying the Zero does not have its own beauty but compared to the Play, it's a plain Jane.

All and all, I have no complaints with either of these. They are perfect for what they are, a small, compact, satisfying vape.

Agreed Vicman.

I found more tart juices work better in my Zeros than sweet type. Subtley in sweet juice gets lost by the sweet part. But stuff like sour apple (or menthol in your case Vic) shines through easily.

The advantage I found stands out the most belongs to the Zero. Battery charge status. I drained my bronze Play to dead without realizing it because the indicator is on the side and real small. I can feel the indicator in the Zero so it's usually right side up. Easy to tell when it goes from green to blue (then eventually red if not near a charger). To check status of the Play requires an atypical direction, so I forget to look for charge status most of the time.

Plus I like being able to see charge status from across the room when the Zero is being charged. The Play can be hard to see from across the room.

Yeah, not being able to see the charge status as easily is a minor drawback. That said, I'm glad they have the button, light, and charge port where they have it. I feel a light on the front would take away from the beauty of the Play. Well, they could have put it in with the little V at the bottom but I like it where it is as it keeps it looking clean.

I also like that I don't notice a real drop from green to blue with the battery with the Play. Never got it to the red so not sure if the drop gets noticeable then. In comparison, I do notice a drop from green to about 10-15 puffs after it goes to blue on the Zero. Feel like it's telling me "feed me Seymour" and I charge it. Guess it's a catch 22 where it's nice to not notice a drop but it could lead to a dead device. I always have a backup or two so not really a problem though.

Hey Vic,

It's regulated so say you have it on 10 watts (or whatever medium is); you take a puff and the light goes from green to blue it's still putting out 10 watts. Same once it goes to red.

I get you on the clean looks part. I suppose I just need to remember to look for the little indicator lamp a couple times a day. Once it's green on the charger that shows up very well from across the room.

Got it. Pod systems it seems. Fairly large ones. I remain less than whelmed by pods

No, not large at all.

My husband absolutely loves his zero.. and that is the tiniest vape ever.. but the battery has good longevity to it, and so do those pods

I was not aware it was regulated, that's great to hear. I just bought it for the looks with the hope it would produce at least as good a vape as the Zero.

Sure, if you compare them to a cig-a-like or a pair of tweezers they're kinda big.

A 2ml tank on top of a "tiny" mod.

Yet in the grand scheme of things they're pretty portable compared to modular stuff.
Even the smallest mod is pretty cumbersome while walking around with a top heavy glass tank setup.

Zero user here. It was my first upgrade from the Juul when I switched from cigs. I like it and have sold a few friends on it, but I wish there was more consistency in pod quality and life.

The Play looks cool but the novelty doesn't seem worth it to me.

An upgraded Zero, on the other hand, might be a different story. I would strongly consider buying a Zero with a bigger pod, longer battery life, and a stronger wattage option. Or a Zero AIO, if there was a cross between the Zero and Nord.

Today was a Zero day. Walking around a construction project with lots of bending over items that if my vape was dropped it would either be impractical to retrieve (a new manhole) it or undesirable (a live sewer manhole). It easily slides in/out of a safery vest pocket. The Play was back in my truck.

The lighter weight of the Zero caused me to feel more confident it would not fall out of my pocket after dropping a Play into puddles several times yesterday. I place vape tank rings around the Zero to assist with grip in my hand or in my pocket when bending over.

If I puff on a Zero, then a Play back to back I can tell a difference. But carrying one or the other and only puffing on that one unit, either one tastes just fine with my chosen juice. (Burst Sher Burst.)

A Play day today....

Overslept, at my hotel Wednesday is bacon day at breakfast but they ran out before I arrived. Get to work (late) and the boss was a drag, not because I was late but because the company requires more forms and reports to fill out.

No offense to the Zero but I needed nicotine and lots of it. Plus being late I hurridly left my hotel room without a Zero. I did have a spare Play with me though. So I chain vaped a Play while in my office on wheels pickup and typed up reports.

Turned out to be a good day. So good in fact I left early. lol.
When I returned to the hotel I went to the room, grabbed my favorite Zero and stuck it in the truck to ensure it's there tomorrow.

Former Zero user here, vape dude left a Play in my mailbox today.
I was underwhelmed by the Zero, it just didn't fit me but a co-worker who was trying to quit tobacco found them awesome so PIFed mine.
United States (member here) dropped off a Play today while I was at work.
What the Zero didn't do for me the Play does. I just couldn't get used to drawing my puffs from a pancake with a Zero whereas the Play hit the size/shape of its tip just right. The balance is better for me with a Play as well. Draw resistance of the Play wins for me as well.
As a Zippo user for decades the pocket friendliness is like an old buddy that went away on vacation for about a year but the Zero was just something in my pocket.
The clicking open/close might get old after a while but I still plan on my main pod being a Vapeants e8 hung on a lanyard so I don't really see it happening any time soon.
My favorite feature of the Play is the draw resistance when direct lung using. It's enough to say it's not airy but still loose enough to not switch back to a tank as my go to vape.
Thanks United States for the surprise.

Enjoy.

My favorite shop in Va Beach gets 5 each week on Saturday and by Wednesday they are gone. At my request dude held onto one for "my brother". Plus he gave me a 10% discount.
I prefer to buy local vs online as well but haven't seen any shops that carry the Aurora or its replacement pods yet in the world I travel.
In a head to head against the e8 the Play, hands down, wins the flavor chaser battle.
