update: i found out that the button is not the problem, it's the spring. it's slightly too big and the part that protrudes doesnt retract into the switch but gets stuck between the switch assy and the button, should i get magnets or is there a way to coil the spring tighter?

no, it is actually really smooth, i use hardware store pure steel wool. it leaves some scratches if you press too hard but they are shallow and you can buff them out easily. i wouldnt recommend using it on anything that bears an electrical load. i use it only on the switches, but it might help...
