Finally got around to rebuilding some more Kanger coils.
Feel proud of myself.
Feel a little frustrated with the mechanics of it as well.
I guess if I had started here and not started rebuilding with the Igo-W, I would feel differently.... but having to take apart (then put back together) a coil head is not particularly my idea of a fun time... also concerned about the process of firing it without juice on it and possibly burning the damned rubber gasket.
But I got four built. Haven't tried them. All read between 2ohms to 2.6ohms (I was trying out different numbers or wraps and different sizes of wire) --- exactly where I wanted them. Had one that came out to 1.5ohms... which I took apart and built again.
Everything looks like it fires well, one had a hotspot that took considerable effort to get out.
The real test will be throwing them in a tank and seeing how they vape --- mostly concerned about if I put too much or too little cotton in them.
I rebuilt a dual coil too. Came out to 1.5ohms... and flooded like a champ...... back to the drawing-board with that one I guess.... but I mostly did it to see if I could (clearly I need a lot more wraps because I like my ohms high --- but I had kinda figured it'd be too low for my liking. I really just wanted to see if I could build one).
*sigh* I love my Aerotank, and I love it with dual-coils even though it's a massive juice hog with dual coils, but my dual-coil heads will probably be tossed. I've been vaping the thing with a single-coil for awhile anyways... so it's not really like it's a big deal.
Honestly, I want to get my hands on the new coils and try those out...
but I also have the urge to throw in the towel and just use rebuildables just because they're so much easier.
Kinda funny how people say that kanger coils are so easy to rebuild - and don't get me wrong, the single coils aren't that hard (I only screwed up my first few (one because I put one of the ends of the wire in the wrong place, one by putting way too much cotton in it and choking it), besides just not getting enough wraps on that one)... but let's face it... the rebuildables that are simple to rebuild are just plain easier.
Building dual coils on the Igo-W was considerably easier than rebuilding coils on the old kanger heads.... hands down, no comparison.
I'm curious to see if the new kanger coils are easier to rebuild....... but they're dual coils, so I'll probably just be swapping complexity.
I see the problem here being finding the sweet spot between too much and too little wick. Obviously, wrapping it's simple enough.... which is guess is what makes the Igo-W so damned simple... since if there's not enough wick (or too much), you don't have to pull the entire thing apart and start all over.... provided the coil's right, it's as simple as swapping out the wick.....
not that simple with the kanger coils.
Oh well.
I feel productive for the day.
Will just be an interesting experience when I get to throwing all those coils on tanks and seeing how badly I wicked them.
Next time, I'll probably just rebuild the coils as needed ---- this was really more about seeing if I could get the ohms right than it really was about building useable coils (since I still have one pre-build coil left).
So... that's that.
