Adapter Tutorial for Apollo Vtube Stainless/Chrome/Copper

Ok, so you've gotten your snazzy, shiny, new Apollo VTube, and are loving every minute of it. Except.... well, maybe it would be better sometimes if the draw weren't quite so 'airy', and if all your 'ego' cartos screwed on. There's a lot of adapters in vape-land, and choosing the right one to 'tighten up' the draw on your carto choice can be a little confusing, especially if you're new to vaping. So here's a photo tutorial walking you through 3 types of adapters, and which carto choices they're best with. And then YOU can decide how you want your new Apollo VTube to look.. and how you want it to vape.

First, we're taking a look at these three common adapters. I've cut to the chase and put the results of this experiment right in the bottom caption, so if you only use one kind of carto, you can see right here which would be the best choice for you. Again, this didn't cover every adapter ever made, but I focused on some basic ones that you can find at most well stocked vape shops. Apollo is planning to carry a version of some of these in the very near future, I believe. These 'close up' photos of adapters, themselves, will be useful if you're trying to see if a vendor carries one of these guys. You can't really tell from this top view, but the center adapter has fluted sides on the exterior. There is a version of this adapter with straight sides, and that may very well work on other cartos. But this fluted one is quite different, as you can see in later photos.

First... 3.5ml Tank Cone aka 3.5ml Short Cone. Here it is with a 3.5ml Dual Coil Tank, by Smoktech. The arrow points directly to the adapter, so you can see how much adapter is 'visible' with each set up.

Next, same adapter with a 5.5-6ml Dual Coil Tank. Apollo makes a lovely version of this specially made for this PV, so if you haven't tried a Dual Coil Tank yet, that's a great option.

I know there's been some debate about which Vision tanks/clearomizers will screw on to the metal Vtubes, but these three versions work beautifully on it. Here we see them with the same adapter... the 3.5ml Tank Cone.

And a surprise. I expected the 6ml DCT Tank Cone to be perfect. Didn't happen that way... at least not with this sort of curvy 'flared' model. I literally couldn't get any tank to screw in with that adapter (and I tried 7 models).

Here's a xl Smoketech carto with/without the 3.5ml Tank Cone adapter. As you can see, you can barely see it. Its much the same for all of the tanks with that 3.5ml Tank Cone... adapter is barely noticeable. Nice that the adapter isn't 'intrustive' looking, since the pv looks so terrific. Ok, so mine looks a little funny with the chrome cap and the stainless body, but Apollo is taking great care of me, and getting it switched out, asap. lol

Ok, now on to the next adapter... This one is the '510 to 510 shorty'. These are also available in the reg size, and those will work just fine for all the same cartos. The extra few mm will just make your carto a lil bit taller. Here we see it with the large size tank.... it works. Doesn't look all that fabulous, but it definitely makes the draw tighter. The 3.5ml Tank Cone seems to be the best choice for the DCTs, any way you cut it.

The 510 to 510 shorty doesn't look too bad with a 1.7ohm Smoktech single coil (in the standard xl aka dual coil carto size). And if you vape a shorter 510 carto, such as a standard size Boge 2.0 or 3.0, or a Smoketech 'shorty', then this may be a look you like with your carto.

Ok, now onto something important for all you Ego clearo lovers. As you may or may not have discovered yet, much of the Joye and Riva brand ego stuff works just great on the all metal Vtubes. However, due to a tiny blip in the design, a few of the 'specialty' third party ego cartos/clearos won't screw on. It needs a few mm of added height to the 510 connection, and they work perfectly. Here we see the ego CE4 aka ego 'stardust' carto, with the metal skirt that prevents it from screwing onto most non-ego gear, as well as the adapter that will make it work.

You can see how flawless your Vtube will look with that same adapter we saw above. So yes... you do have to use an adapter. But chances are, you'd want a slightly tighter draw, anyway, and with this adapter you get the best of both worlds... and its invisible once the carto is screwed on.

So there you have it.... All the common carto types, either shown off on the adapters that look great, function, and tighten up the draw flawlessly, or a bit about why it won't work. I've had a few vapers tell me it seems backwards. The '510 to 510 shorty' adapter is the perfect choice if you use ego cartos that will or will not screw onto the pv with no adapter, to tighten up the draw. And for pretty much everything else, imo, the '3.5ml Tank Cone' aka 3.5ml Tank Short Cone is the clear winner. Luckily, you can get these adapters at a ton of places, so you might just be able to toss em in with your next purchase of juice or cartos. But I've used these vendors, and they're solid. And we'll cross our fingers that Rob at Apollo lets us know when they get stock of these adapters in, as well. You often have a choice, when buying the '510 to 510 shorty adapter' as to whether you want sealed or unsealed (ie:tiny hole at bottom of 510 connection). Some places only carry one or the other. I didn't have an unsealed one handy, but I'm guessing that it would probably make the draw a little less 'tight' than the sealed adapter, so do consider that when buying yours. Another note... it is possible that the 5.5-6ml Tank Cone with the straight up and down sides, just like the 3.5ml tank cone, but with a wider flange/lip on the top, may work great with the larger tanks. I didn't have one, so I can't report on that. I do know that the one I tried, with the flared top, didn't work with anything but plain old 510 cartos, and looked a little odd. Hopefully someone who has one of those 'straight sided' large tank cones will let us know. The first 3 shops I checked were all sold out of these things when I went to get these links. So if they're sold out, just try somewhere else. They're a very common item. If you're NOT SURE if an adapter you find somewhere else is correct or not, feel free to pm me, or ask in the 'Lavatoob Noob' thread I set up to answer questions. And yes... these are the Vtubes from Apollo, but there's lots of 'lavatubes' by any other name floating around, and their owners need help, too. lol

There's a few other less common adapters, and I'd love to know if they work or not. So if you have a different one, please feel free to post a photo of the adapter, and one with the carto/tank it works well with. I'm sure it will come in handy to someone.

Ok, so I hope that clears up any adapter related confusion. lol Feel free to pm or stop into the Noob thread if you have any question about your Vtube/lavatube/ whataver tube and any accessories or devices you wanna use on it. There's a bunch of experienced vapers who will help as best we can.

If you put the 510 to 510 shorty adapter on you can set the larger Flared cone in, it wont screw in, and it will sit flush with the bottom of a DCT.

Ooh, good to know! Thanks, Bizrad! I think I tried that, but I only had a 'sealed' 510 to 510 adapter, and I found the 'draw' a little too tight since its already tighter with a dct and then adding the 'sealed' 510 to 510 shorty makes it a little tighter, and the flared 5-6ml cone made it tighter still. But that's TOTALLY personal preference. Some people really like a tight draw, and I'm guessing it would be a lot looser with an 'unsealed' shorty connector in there. I just didn't have one to try. lol I did like the looks of that setup, though! Lemme see if i can get a photo to give you guys an idea.... Ok, and mine isn't sitting flush, there's still a little gap. Guessing Bizrad has a 'shorter' shorty connection than I do. lol Still looks kinda cool and space agey, though. ;)

I believe my 'shorty' adapter is 5.5mm tall, but I might be off a mm or so. And it looks a lil nuts on this setup, but just had to show off my awesome new Trippy Tip! Love it, and it just showed up an hour ago ... was a gift from a dear friend so that makes it even more special. lol Oh, and just had a thought... Mine also might have a 'gap' because I'm using a bottom plated punched carto in the tank. If you punch your own, or if your tank cartos don't have that 'bottom plate' it might well sit a bunch more flush than mine is.

Does the 'sealed' shorty works with the center pin on the LT? I got some unsealed shorty 510 to 510 adapters and they are not making a connection to the battery using Ce2 atty's.

Maybe I should have gotten the sealed ones. I think that is the problem.

Yeah, sorry... I think it is, too! I didnt have an unsealed though, so thanks for the heads up that they don't work! Pin never occurred to me! Gosh, hope a bunch of people didn't get em. Guessing vendor will exchange though. Sealed definitely does. ;)

Ok, here's a tip I've just recently been clued into.... if you're trying to use a VIVI NOVA tank with your stainless/chrome tube, and finding that it screws on and fires, but has ZERO airflow so is unvapable, I've been told that the addition of the '3.5ml tank cone' (links above) will make it vape properly. Can't imagine WHY this is so, but its been verified by a few people. So if the Nova makes your heart sing, and you wanna use it on your metal vtube... that cone allows you to, supposedly.

If you really DON'T want to fuss with an adapter, the APOLLO/E2/EXCALIBUR tank (available both tank plus innards or just replaceable innards at Vapors Choice, Ecigarettes & Parts, DiscountVapers - Your source for savings on electronic cigarettes and accessories, Go-go eGo, vGo, and GotVapes.com, E-cigarette Supplies - Atomizers Cartomizers Mods Juice and more... though must be member of gotvapes special program to purchase there) operates VERY similar to the vivi nova, and also has replaceable innards... and it DOES work, right out of the gate, no adapter on the metal tubes. Many people who've tried both the VN and the Apollo prefer the Apollo for flavor and less 'fussing' with troubleshooting, so chances are if you like the nova, you'll like the E2, as well. BUT the nova apparently is usable with a '3.5ml tank cone' adapter, so its all down to preference. E2 is somewhere in the vicinity of $7-$14 for chrome tank w window and 1 set of 'innards', with extra 'innards' available for $2.85-3.50ish, in a few different resistances.

Special thanks to tlMoody27 and Water 4 Fuel for bringing this problem with the Vivi Novas on the chrome/ss tubes to my attention! A very experienced vaper is gonna check this out for us, and see if he can figure out just why that Vivi Nova tank restricts all airflow without the 3.5ml tank cone.

Hi Orachel,
Just bought and received my 3.5 ml tank cone so I could use my mini vivi novas on my chrome vtube (lavatube), as you suggested above- BUT THE TANKS WON'T FIT!!! Aaarrgghh! Back to using my unsightly 510/510 connector. Bummer :(
