I am game Dawn!!

Best Christmas story, hum, that is hard trying to think quickly. I think the latest best was when I was working a hard, long hours consulting job (computers). I just did not have the time or energy to decorate for Christmas. I came home late from work one night, exhausted, and the whole house was decorated! My husband is Jewish but he does the best Christmas decor! No pine tree, but we had a fake ficus tree, all covered with lights and ornaments (Star Trek and dogs, of course!).

Thanks for the contest Dawn. Perhaps people are just busy with shopping and preparation. But if I am the only entry, well, heck! Why not?

Have a wonderful Christmas!

It was 1979 and I was 15 years old. We didn't have much money, but my parents worked very hard to get us everything they could (Mother was a rural route carrier and Dad worked 7 days per week on the line at GM). For several years we had been in the habit of opening all of our gifts on Christmas Eve, and this year was no exception. We opened up all the gifts and it was a bountiful year. My brother and sister and I, went to bed happy with all that we had received.

When we woke up the next morning, we went downstairs only to discover 3 more gifts. A brand new color TV for my brother, new ski's, poles, boots and bindings for my sister and I. We couldn't believe it and all started crying. I'll never forget that Christmas.

Thanks for the contest.

Hard to say what my best Christmas story is, all I know is that I remember Christmas when I was young, with my mother and father (who are both gone now) and my brothers and sisters. My aunts and uncles would come by my parents house and visit, and how everything seemed so wonderful. My mother would cook a great meal and we would all eat together and then usually play some type of board game or card game. We would exchange presents on Christmas Eve between family members, and when my parents wanted us to go to bed, they would tell us that Santa wouldn't come until we went to sleep. Then on Christmas Morning we would wake to the presents that Santa brought us.

Damn I miss those days, and my parents.

Oh wow, so many years ago..........

We had nearly always opened our gifts on Christmas Eve not because of any special tradition. Simply because Daddy couldn't wait to see our faces and get into the joy and excitement. It makes me cry a little to think about it now. Daddy worked hard and Mom too. She worked at a box factory, making valentine boxes and sometimes brought the ruined ones home to my sister and I to play with. We cut them apart and took the ribbons and pretty papers and things and made Mom and Daddy presents with them. This one year my sister and I overheard our parents having an argument in the living room about whether or not we should wait until Christmas Morning or go ahead and have our present on Christmas Eve. It seemed that it was such a big present our mom wanted to wait and Daddy being such a big kid, like always, wanted to go ahead and have it that night. LoL

I remember us, just looking at each other and giggling and jumping up and down. We didn't dare make a sound, but of course we wanted to go ahead and have the present. Well, Daddy won out, just like he always did. Mom always said she had 3 kids, daddy was one too. She made cocoa and cookies and we had presents. I got a blue bike and my sister got a little red one with training wheels. We also got a chord organ which I learned to play right away, Silent Night and we sang songs long into the night. It was really cold outside but the next morning, Daddy took us outside in the snow to try out our bikes. I got a skinned knee and frostbitten toes, almost. I would give anything to have 10 of those minutes back. To see my Mom and my Daddy again. To have skinned knees and momma making cocoa in the kitchen.

Thank you Dawn for the contest....... and for the memories.

Just out on my own, I was working long hours and could not get home for holidays. Many phone conversations with family and friends in December must have tipped off a few key people that I was feeling homesick. Unbeknownst to me, some pretty amazing people were making plans. I made my way home the night before x-mas and walked into a scene right out of a movie...3 of my best friends and my family waiting for me, with my little apartment all decked out. I'm tearing up now even writing this. We still joke, to this day, about the time my family and friends broke in to my apartment (nothing too crazy...my best friend had extra key).

Hi and thanks for the contest!

Okay there are a few Christmases that kind of stick out for me. One was we had some out of town relatives over plus the in-town relatives at our place about 20 miles outside of Cincy. Well the weather took a turn for the worse and we all got snowed in at our not so big house for several days. There were folks sleeping everywhere, on recliners, on the couch and chairs and floor! It was interesting, to say the least!

My mother had a twin sister and they both had children who were about the same age. Sometimes on Christmas Eve or Christmas night we would go to my aunt's house. Her husband was an avid hunter, and would go hunting late fall. One Christmas we arrived at their house, which was in a neighborhood built on a hill with houses pretty close together, and in their tiny front yard my uncle had hung a big buck upside down from a post or something! My siblings and cousins and I still joke about the dead reindeer in their front yard on Christmas! I know I'll never forget that image as long as I live!

Thanks and Merry Christmas!

My best Christmas story is long and will be poorly written. And may have to be more than one post due to length..

Back story: when my girlfriend was pregnant and we went in for first sonogram the tech niticed something that didnt seem right so we were Reffered to a doctor for a diagnostic. That doctor looked and said the baby's heart wasnt growing in proportion and might have a heart defect. That doctor Reffered us to a specialist for final diagnostics. This doctor confirmed that the babu has a heart defect and gave us alot of information about the defect.

On November 17 my son was delivered by a scheduled section with a surgery room prepped and ready for immediate surgery should baby not respond well. Baby did much better than expected and was able to wait a week before his first surgery. After a 6 hour surgery my child was in his recovery room and on the healing process.

That year when anyone asked me what I wanted for Christmas all I would say is my child HOME for Christmas. I didn't want to be 2 1/2 hours away from him on christmas. He was healing nicely and opening his eyes (hard to do when you have 4 ivs all pushing fluids into you, your body kinda swells) and I took many pictures. 2 weeks before Christmas the doctors said that if he could eat an entire bottle and eat X bottles a day they will release him and let us take him home. (By the time he was released I knew what EVERY button in his room did, and what needed documentation).

A week before Christmas we were told he is being released and we got ready for him to come home. The day he was released I got teary and couldn't drive the car to the discharge pickup (its quite funny seeing a baby being pushed in a wheelchair).
He was home for Christmas. I got my Christmas wish and the only gift I wanted that year. He dressed up as a little elf. I will share pictures if I can find them.

The next year I proposed to my girlfriend in front of my entire family at Christmas when everyone was opening thier gifts.

My Best Christmas was the year I got accused of being Santa Claus  yep, me a monkey was Santa Claus

A friend I worked with had just moved into a new home they got on a deal. It took all their money but they just had a 'surprise' baby (a 3rd,an unexpected boy). They weren't going to be able to have a Christmas in their first year in their new home. I was able at the time to go shopping and I bought Christmas gifts for the whole family secretly. I drove to their house rite before Christmas and had unloaded the car of gifts into their master bedroom closet without the kids seeing me :D The parents cried, I told them to Sshhhhhhh so the kids wouldn't hear us  That Christmas morning Santa had visited them. Smiles Abound All Over the House ! When I went to visit Christmas day, the kids were having a ball with all their gifts. Then the oldest son cornered me and whispered in my ear..."I know you were Santa Claus this year. It had to be you, My mommy and Daddy had no money to buy us gifts. I want to Thank You "Santa", he said with a kiss to my cheek, Don't tell my little sister. It'll be OUR secret forever."

Of course I denied it as I didn't even have ANY gray hair at the time :lol:

Ok Dawn...
Christmas of 1997...I was ten years old and wanted a "Tyco Rebound!" Lol it was a remote control car that did all kinds of flips and what not...well I begged and begged for this gift but at a $50 price tag my parents were just not able to get it for me. I was forced to watch the commercials come on everyday, knowing I wasn't gonna get me one! Shucks!
Well. ..being Hispanic, we alwayssss celebrate xmas on xmas eve. We have dinner and at around 10pm we open all the gifts! It came and went and sure enough...no "tyco rebound! "
Now the whole " run down stairs and open your gifts on xmas morning" thing never went down in my family being thay we ALWAYS celebrate the night before ...
So waking up xmas day you imagine my disbelief when I came downstairs and there was still 1 gift under the tree!!!!!
It said "to: Robert...from: Santa"
I was literally shocked like crazy cuz leading up to that we never got gifts on xmas morning. ..everything was already said and done by then! Soooo....I opened it up. And low and behold it was a .....
TYCO REBOUND! !!
Best xmas ever as a kid and I will never forget it! Best part is that once I have kids of my own I get to continue on all my family's traditions and hopefully one day give em the awesome-ist xmas ever just like Santa and mt parents did for me!

The end :)

Thank you Dawn!!! I was post #3, this is very generous of you.

Another short story about my worst Christmas. It was my first year away from home. I grew up around Chicago and I moved to California, Yucca Valley. The postman was Mr Santa, my family all sent boxes of gifts. I stupidly opened them as I got them. When it came to Christmas Day, I had nothing to open. It was very sad. Never did that again! Loneliest Christmas I ever had.

Thank you again! And I am more than happy to pay shipping plus any extra I know I will spend. Email already sent.... :D

I work for the largest computer company in the world as a field tech. Because we are field techs we are occasionally on-call. 5 years ago I was on-call Christmas week. On Christmas eve I got a call for a large cancer research center/hospital in the area. It was Christmas eve and the family was over so of course I was kind of upset to have to leave my family to go to work. I get to the hospital and as I'm walking down the hall with my tools and box of parts a little boy stops me and asks if I'm the man here to fix the computer. I tell him that yes I am. And his face just lit up. And tells me how things are normally work so slow at the hospital and couldn't believe how quickly I got there. This of course put a smile on my face. He then tells that santa is sure to bring me a very good present tomorrow. We chatted for a bit and I went on to do my work. As I'm leaving his parents stop me and tell me that he is just 7 years old and has a rare form of cancer (the name is one that I cannot remember) and all he did was talk about how quick I got there to fix the computer the doctors needed to take care of him. I was literally fighting back the tears to think how upset I was when I had to leave the house yet this little boy was as happy as could be even though his Christmas eve was spent in the hospital. It really felt good to meet such a good hearted and happy child on what really was a sad evening.

This was one Christmas eve that I will never forget.

Merry Christmas and happy holidays to everyone and thank you Dawn for the contest!!
