There's no one setting that's "right" for all coils, juices and vaping styles. Different air flow for different power levels, mouth to lung, lung hits.. and to just alter the flavor.
I just got my gf one of these, yesterday. Promptly tossed the pre built coil in the RBA head, and wrapped my own. She loves it; but she's still experimenting with the airflow.
Wide open. I can't go lower than two holes, and even then, I start to cough. I do lung hits and anything restricted airflow wise just seems to irritate my throat.
Same...it's purely base on personal preference. Just vape on each airflow and see which will satisfy you the most in terms of airflow restriction, flavor and vapor. Mine is 100% on the biggest air-flow as I like it airy.
Definitely preference. I am normally on wide open as most mentioned above. And I take lung hits. The fiancé likes the two, and sometimes one, hole setting cuz she takes mouth to lung hits. Feel it out. You'll know soon enuff what worx for you. The ST is great and is my ADV to, from and at work. Even between rdas while at home. I always try to keep it filled with my fav juice mix. Love rebuilding the coils on it too!
I generally bounce between the widest and middle position depending on the juice. I have two Subtanks. One original and one new. They are different. The newer one has airflow on both sides, the older only one. The airflow on the newer one also has a very tiny restricted hole for mouth-to-lung on the smallest setting. I've tried it a few times like that and even 3mg juice has a LOT of punch. Also the juice channels are cut better on the newer one and it wicks 70VG juice nicely.
I use it wide open. Any lower and the vape is too warm for me. And I'm only using it at around 22 watts.
