Koolada - Safety?

I was reading up all over the web on juice ingredients the other day, and I came across a discussion of Koolada (not the debunked-as-I-understand it nicotine issue).

For the life of me, I can't find the article - I must have forgotten to bookmark it.

Now, if memory serves, it wasn't a terribly scary factoid, but it did contain info that's good to know - but, I'm losing my mind and cannot find the darn writeup.

Has anyone ever encountered a discussion of a potential risk with Koolada flavoring? It may have had something to do with diketones or buyric acid.

Update, I found the conversation on reddit. I think the OP there is just wrong - to the best of my understanding, Koolada is not menthofuran - it's menthyl methyl lactate.

Any better chemists able to confirm that one isn't simply a name for the other?

Two totally different chemicals.

menthofuran is C10 H14 O and menthyl methyl lactate is C14 H26 O3

Yeah, it's like that old email that's floating around stating that margarine is one molecule from being plastic. Just have to do your homework.
