Hey Carlos, good to hear from you. I too get the flu shot every year but have not had the flu after doing so. One of the strains going around this year were not predicted last year when they were making the vaccine so, some folks that got the shot will indeed get the flu. Hopefully a much milder case of it though.

I have to keep bringing this up again and again, that people somehow think when they finally/maybe/eventually get around to quitting smoking that their lungs get all fixed, like you will somehow grow a new lung or something.

People think that because the American Heart Association keeps telling them that. Although the truth is somewhere in the middle; most of us won't have pre-damage lungs magically appear but health, age, genetics and diet are considerations in the healing factor as well as the kind and extent of the damage done. At 8 months of reduced smoking the x-rays of my lungs showed massive improvement. We'll see how it goes in another 7.5 months without any cigarettes.

Elbakan1 so long as you're on this side of the ground there's hope.

Frechfry 1942: The are many people with lung problems at any age. I think the mileage and luck are more important than the year.
I've lived Full Blast since I was 13. I was all alone. Never expecting to see 50. Rick Sambora stole my line: "We are here for a good time, not for a long time"..

SmokeyJoe: Dayum!. James Dean was better looking than me. I "invested" all of the 20 mins of the tape, and not a single word about emphysema.
I don't believe in Farsalinos & Co. The only doctors doing "research" on ecigs. Like I don't believe in the AMA either, but at least I know who pays them.
WendyM: Smoking is like Russian roulette. If you play the game long enough, you will shoot yourself. Nobody has better genes than me. Mother is living proof at 101 and counting. I know how she gets her energy. She's a vampire even if she doesn't know it. Everybody that goes into her room comes out half dead, me included.
Emphysema is irreversible and progressive. I've lost 35% of my lungs so far, and will lose more. Dieting and exercise prolong life, but produce no cilia.
The only hope for those that last long enough, is stem cells. But it's still 10 years away. I wonder what quality of life I will have then. Besides,if I make it, I'll be 75. Not much left in the tank anyway. All I ask for is not to suffer. I've have lived.
BTW, my team lost. But I'm no fair weather fan. I won't remove my plates. ROLL TIDE ROLL!!!.

I got good news for a change. I'm a GrandPa!!!! Thanks to my adopted (by force) Chinese son.
The kid has his mother's good looks. She looks like a porcelain doll.
And hopefully will inherit his father's smarts. This guy was the "inventor" if you will, of the program
that makes e-trade with China possible. I'm REALLY going to China this time.
He won't bring my grandson to the States until he's 1 year old, he says. I can't wait that long.
I have lost all hope with my real kids. Based in their own experience, they don't even want to get married.
Reverse psychology has worked too well, "We don't wanna be like you dad". Only it has affected the only thing I was missing.
Now I'm whole. I really feel like a true GrandPa. Life is what you make it.
Another good news is that they've lifted my ban in the newbie forum. All by themselves. Great!!!. I can talk emphysema now.

I've lost all perspective about this thread. This thread is about smoking prevention and emphysema. Not about my life.
I apologize for that. From now on, it will be "just the facts, 'mam.".
But I'm Soo happy I could'nt refrain myself.

Woohoo, GrandPa Carlos That is awesome news and I love to hear good news like that myself. I too was close to losing hope that I would ever be a grandma. Now I have a 6 year old grandson that I could not love any more if I tried

Firstly, congratulations on becoming a grandpa!

I'm really very sorry, but I linked you to the wrong video, and cannot find the video I meant to show you. I hope there was something interesting in it, so you don't think it was a total waste of time!

Essentially, in the video I meant to show, Dr Polosa explains that in his studies he has found evidence of not just harm-reduction in smokers, but harm reversal. In other words, the healing that is occurring in his "vaping" sample is actually reversing the damaged caused by smoking.

He's not, of course, directly attributing this to vaping (he's not saying there's a magical property of e-cigs that is causing additional healing), but he is saying that there is significant evidence of healing that amounts to the reversal of risk.

The point is, those who say that vaping has "unknown" risks are implying that all-things stay the same. Now it is true, of course, for certain diseases (principally cancer) that the damage is usually done after a certain point. But for emphysema specifically, smokers who move to vaping should expect improvement in their condition.

In terms of funding, Dr Polosa works for the University of Catania, Italy where he is the Director of the Institute for Internal Medicine and Clinical Immunology. Dr. Farsalinos works for the Onassis Cardiac Center, Greece and has crowdsourced funding for two studies. I know them both personally, and (for what it's worth) believe them to be as scientifically objective as it's possible to be.

I trust Mayo Clinic instead. And they say, no dice in paradise.
There are a lot of quakers out there taking advantage of the desperate..

He takes the ignorant overseas for treatment and robs them of thousands of dollars.
This lung guy is 89 yrs old. When he goes to court, and he will, he can claim senility.
I hope he fries in the hot oils of hell. And he's close to get there too.

The only hope for blood grand kids is my youngest son at 25.
But I may not be here to enjoy them.
For now, I'm VERY happy with my grandson.
BTW, his name is Xu Yunfei. It means, flies among the clouds..
His father wants him to be an astronomer.
A lot of wasted talent because of parents trying to live their dreams through their kids.
Can't wait to get to China to pull his ears.

I'm still vaping but not inhaling. And, trust me, I breathe a hell of a lot better.
It's not that hard once you adjust the nic higher and practice.

Sometimes it is wise to "baby" already-damaged lungs, and not inhaling is something that fits well with the whole *concept* of HARM REDUCTION, too.

My lungs hurt immediately when I inhale. Specially now, that I'm vaping 24 to 36mg to compensate. Carlos.

Carlos, there is a website dealing with alternative natural cures or relieve for many ailments including emphysema.
I won't give you the url because I'm not going to post any excerpts from them, in the first place there are too many relevant articles to post,
in the second it will work better for if you work for it.

that search engine is your friend. try: nature+cure+emphysema+hydrogen peroxide and you might get lucky...
btw, I had COPD. note that I said had...It's worth a try.

I'd cut out the 36 mg. It's got a much bigger lung bite than 24 which is what I usually vape.
36 mg gives me tachycardia .

But I don't agree with "had" COPD. Maybe you had asthma, strong colds, the flu, a combination of some. or all.
Once you get COPD/Emphysema is permanent.. And is progressive. All you can do is alleviate the symptoms.

Imagine how many people would pay millions to be healthy. And the poor oxygen suppliers out of business.

I mean "had". I meant COPD. Didn't just get off the boat...Believe me, I know asthma, not only did I grow up with it (inhaler and all),but my kid has it also.
But after smoking since I was 12 years old for almost over 40 years, I had COPD as well as a funky spot in one of my air bags.

Don't believe everything the MDs tell you. I've mentioned this elsewhere on this site but here:
My ex, who also called me "Listen"..was a lab tech at papanicolaus. She used to come home ticked off
'cause whenever their were getting close to finding a cure for certain types of cancer
they'd scrap the study.
Cancer is a $124.6 Billion Dollar Industry...COPD research and medical treatment is also a multi-million dollar
(not cuban pesos or chavitos) industry.
Would you like it if you grew sugar cane and suddenly they found it causes whatever?
Would you consider donating large chunks of money to the gub'min or the powers that be
so you could go on selling guarapo? See what I mean?
You can't patent H2O2..but it's a solvent. As such it dissolves the crap stuck to the cilia in your lungs.
Read all about it and think "cured"
