Anyone else had an issue with this? Is it possibly because there is a hot spot on the coil or a short between the coil and the mesh? I am using 500 SS mesh for the wick and 30 guage Kanthal A-1 wire for the coil. This has happened both on devices using a single 18650 and two 18350s. The reading for the coil came out to 1.7 ohms with a 5/4 wrap. Any advice would be appreciated since I want this to work. It just seems odd that it is igniting the liquid it pulls up like that.

Yep, hot spot. It ignites the juice in the wick.

Ok, thanks! I guess I will just have to get some more practice wrapping coils to avoid getting those hot spots.

this has only happened to me with sub ohm coils, at least i now know how to wire up an emergency lighter if needed...

All it means is that you have the top cap off. A good coil does get hot enough the ignite juice. The top cap that keeps it snuffed out when in use.
