Anyone know of a smart charger that plugs into USB so that it doesn't require an outlet? I'm going to be traveling to one of the least densely populated countries in the world for two weeks, Mongolia. Where we are staying, there are no toilets, no showers, no refrigerators, no roads and worse of all, no electricity. Nearly everyone in the 'town' of yurts smoke cigarettes and that is going to be very hard for me to fight the urge if I cannot vape an rda for two whole weeks! I was considering buying a solar charger with USB output which will be fine for my egos and Itaste VV, but I'd feel a lot better with my trusty Nemesis or my Itaste SVD. Buying, charging and carrying 30 batteries doesn't sound appealing to me!

Solar charging will be cost prohibitive and questionable it will charge the batteries to be useful.

Your best bet would be bring enough batteries considering the cost.

Another option would be bring 12V charger with your and hope that they already 12V batteries you can hook into to charge your batteries.

Good luck.

Found this http://www.amazon.com/Foldable-Dual...=1394189068&sr=8-2&keywords=usb+solar+charger
and http://www.amazon.com/XTAR-Intellig...=1394189170&sr=8-1&keywords=usb+18650+charger

If you already have a solar charger with usb out, that may work for you given your solar panel have enough amp out?

I'm not sure what the output power is... and google search is telling me the manufatcturer site is currently under suspicion for spam hacking....

but what about an NPower peg? it IS usb output, not sure if that helps?

If not, I'd look at a 12 volt solar panel and something like an intellicharger. They take 12v standard with another cord? Plus... you could piggyback on practically any vehicle/boat system for a charge that way.

In fact, you could pretty easily set up a 'go kit' for charging that'd hook up to almost anything...

The charger board that Evolv Vapor sells for a whopping $7.50 will do that:

You'll need to run two wires from the board to the 18650 battery holder of your choice, and presto, you've got a USB 18650 charger.

here's an idea:

Cottonpickers is a well respected provider for the solar charging community.

from - FS: Solar Powered & USB Chargers -2 panels added - Page 43

"tmack: Your quad folder is all done. It will come with a 700ma charger , 12v socket (using 3xusb->12v socket) and a 4.4amp usb connector (for when the sun isn't shining but you still need to charge stuff fast :) and a simple nimh charger ($199) For anyone else interested, I normally make this up with just 2 usb ports (2.2amps each) with one being Apple and the other android/standard, but using 4 ports gives the option to charge a laptop if its happy on 20v and you (or ask me) can make up the lead. I'm also sending the ordered $15 18650 storage box for charging stuff when the sun has gone in. Hopefully I can get this in the post to you tomorrow and will send tracking. If I can't make tomorrow (unlikely I can't make it) , it has to go Tue as its a UK holiday. The panels have removable plastic on to keep fingerprints at bay, which you can remove to make it look nice like the mini folder.

doctordun: I'm still playing around with how best to make the mini-folders - you are welcome to the one in the pic for $42 delivered. Its not perfect as the Velcro isn't as aligned as it should be, but its very light and minimalist -weight is 250g and size is 15cmx18cm. I think when I finally make these a standard offering the price will change a little (perhaps $49 with a lead / charger of some sort) and I'll make it slightly larger at 15x19cm. "

I've e-mailed him about a ready-to-charge-our-vape-batteries solar solution and his response was positive.
He'd be willing to work with us if there's enough interest in a 12v (Intellicharger or whatever) ready output device.
I'm sure if we'd like a standardized solar charger for our batteries type product we could get a decent price.
I think these would work fine with a basic dual panel setup - Xtar MC1 Portable USB Charger
I'm awaiting feedback from him.

I will be getting something from him.
I'd like to see if there's any interest in designing a special solar package for us vapers first.
Any other real interest in a solar panel charger here?

Well, this just seems like a absolutely excellent kit idea for charging the 18650 (etc) when away from the grid.. talk about handy as a pocket on a shirt!! I'm definitely on the "interested" side of the fence on this one!

That thread on that forum shows 4 years of his manufacturing evolution and plenty of bored night reading.
I read enough to know I want to get my bug-out solar panels charging kit from him.
He seems to be the man when it comes to these kits.
I get a headache when I try to wrap my head around too much electronics talk but I can tell him what I'd like.

That's a fascinating thread. I'm plotting ways to pay for a multiple panel kit, something to cover the laptop since I'm living in the land of 300 days of sun/year. However I am interested in something specifically vape friendly.

Voltage conversion has become FAR more efficient in the last few years. You can pick up many panels designed as trickle chargers for automotive batteries, or even some dedicated to 5v USB. My opinion though? You can get a 20w panel at 12v and get a good charge controller, and there's your 4a charge current for your 18650. At less than 80 bucks.

Dave says it would take about 6 hours to charge an AW IMR 18650 with that .5A charger I linked to.
Anyone know of a good, protected 1A USB charger on the market?
Thanks
I like the intellicharger I have. It's not the sturdiest design, but more than sturdy enough, and it's a cc/cv charger, it should charge our batteries optimally, and it's also ready to run 110v or 12v right off the bat.

I use a couple of I2s and like them. I'm considering a 15000 or 20000mah battery charger such as -

Anker® 2nd Gen Astro Pro2 20000mAh 4-Port Aluminum Portable External Battery Charger

That holds a lot of mah for $80 and I read it can deliver 15000mah :thumb:
