1. Pull your desired length of ribbon off the spool but don't cut it. Pull on the ribbon with toothless pliers till you feel it stretch a little. Now cut it. Repeat till you have the desired ammount.

2. Cut off the bent pieces. It makes it much easier to stack.

3. Line up and stack one end. Once it's perfect, tape up this end only. You want the other end free. If you are doing long pieces you can lick the ribbon to make it stick...or use some VG/juice.

4. Run your srack through the swivel making sure that the middle (where the swivel is) is stacked perfectly. Now start bending it around the swivel making sure they stay stacked right where the swivel is. If you have one piece out of the stack it will have a different bend anf it's hard to get it back in the stack. Now that it's perfectly stacked on the swivel, tape it.

5.
Start at the swivel and start lining it all up working your way to the end. More spit may help. Once you get to the end, hold it in a stack and tape it off about 2" away from the end.

6. Now bind about 1" with 38g or 40g. Be careful and make sure it's staying stacked through the binding process.

7. Stick the binding in the drill. As you tighten the chuck, watch the ribbon. If they start moving out of alignment, reposition it in the chuck. I tighten the heck out of it.

8. Now make sure you're still stacked near the swivel, pinch the 2 stacks together and run the drill to bind it. Cut the tape off with a razor blade.

Now you just clapton. Keep tension on the drill the whole time or it's likely to start separating.
I'd use 36g or smaller so you don't need alot of spool tension.

I'd recommend framed staples at first. The frames make it much easier to coil.
I'd also watch the tutorials on YT. Squidoode has a good one.

Here's the resulting coil (and my first staple with no frames):

I was going to work on something new today but got cought up building for my friend...and cooking. I get nervous when people watch and I'm trying to teach him something he can use one day...it took a looong time. Lol.
Nothing too complicated but he couldn't be happier. It's the best vaping single I've ever made. 26g/8ply 0.4mm

Would you believe the guy that made the coil above also made this turd?

Every single method for getting perfect spaces fails miserably. The best so far is the double loop but I can make 2 wires with even spaces but they don't match each other. Ugh. I hate it.

I think I'll just order the cheapest 36g I can find and parallel clapton the cores so I can remove the cheap one. This is an absolute pita.
To clarify, the last clapton (the filler) I actually like doing. That's kinda fun but not when you're fighting it the whole way.

Unless my eyes are starting to fail me i think i see the school boy error :D Clapton's wraps never lay onto the main wire perpendicular, they always have an angle to them, an angle of the corkscrew, when i look at your staggered wires they seem to be going in opposite direction's.

Edit: From the picture and the way the shadow sits on the wire its real hard to tell one way or the other if this is what you did.

Also Owl, did you use the same gauge for the fuse as you did for the stagger?

Yeah, it's pretty wild. The wrap slows the ramp up quite a bit. But so do the frames.

I was expecting my first toke on a naked staple to spit and burn like hell but it was very much the opposite and gave me a different understanding of how clapton's and fused wraps worked in delivering flavour, which to me seem's to be through spitting very fine globules of juice along with the vapour. I was also able to turn the power down on the build because now i had the Heat wire against the wick instead of the clapton wrap and get what to me seemed like the same vape experience. I really like them but as you know they are a pita to make :D

I also made a regular staple, 10/12ply (can't remember) wraped in 36g n80 with 6 3.5mm wraps and it heats about as fast.
They both need about the same power.
I only used 28g for the naked frames but it's definitely enough to slow the whole thing down.
I'm not sure if one would survive the process with no frames though.
Yeah, pulling the wrap off sucked but after I found a groove on the second one it only took 30 minutes or so.
The hardest part was cutting into it to have a place to start.

If I do another it would probably be no frames, more ribbon. If it would survive.

@whiteowl84 nice tutorial on stacking ribbon bro. The one thing I do differently is I use a little bit of high gauge garbage wire to keep it bound together at the top.

Trip interlock over 8ply .3/46g/2ply .3/28g frames. 2 strands SS, 1 strand N80 on the interlock.

Enigmas. Idk if I posted these already but I still need to actually take pics of them.

Nice work Tom:thumb: what gauge wrap wire did you use for both, 40g?
