I have noticed, in my time being out and about, that we each have stereotypical interests and antistereotypical interests.

I, for one, love to tinker with tools, attempting my own repairs. I drive a pickup truck. I am very rapt up in my cats. I am very strong and outspoken in my opinions. I no longer give a rats tuckus about fashion.

On the other hand, I crochet. I sew on a sewing machine - albeit at a beginner's level. I thoroughly enjoy home decorating. I adore gay men while still being a rather butch ..... I want very little to do with political activism - I figure society will catch up with us when they see who we really are, individually. I don't really like sports, and I abhorr American football. I love, love, love shopping, especially bargain shopping.

So, tell us which of the gay and lesbian stereotypes fit you and which do not. I think it would be an interesting topic.

Interesting question!

Stereotypical- I'm also a tinker-er (ha!), have been since I was a toddler. Mom says I walked around with a screwdriver taking stuff apart all the time. :D I'm a gadget freak. I've been called the female version of Macgyver because I can rig stuff up to work or get me by til I can get it fixed. I know how to do stuff with my car (change oil, change tires, umm...tinker, install audio equiptment) I mow the lawn cuz I LIKE it. I like sports. I love beer. I have 2 cats. I own rainbow 'stuff'.

Antistereotypical- I come across as femme to most. I love fashion; clothes, shoes, purses. I love perfumes & makeup. My hair is always done. Manicures twice a year maybe but pedicures every month. I like my toes to look pretty lol:cool: and oh yes, I love shopping too!

There's still a bit of stereotyping in the US around butch/femme roles but we don't really have that much in the UK now.
I wonder why that is? I mean I'm happy you guys over there can just live and let live but over here... No such thing and I don't expect it to change any time soon.

I don't think I'm that stereotypical at all, unless being chained to a PC is a gay trait!!
Checking 'tied to pc' off on my list now. :D

I'm not sure why we don't really have much of a butch/femme thing here Rainbowz. I wonder if it has anything to do with the US being a bit more conservative and Europe being a bit more socialist politically. Maybe roles are less fixed with that culture or maybe it's something else, I don't really know.

I'm also in love with my computer, it's what I do most of the time. TV is boring to me now, except for Star Trek Voyager and The Next Generation, lol.

Stereotypical-
I also like to tinker but I have Ripley to do that for me. I do the yard work because I also like it. Dont wear dresses/skirts. Love my jeans, t-shirts, yes flannel shirts and tennis shoes. Use to wear my ropers (boots) all the time but had to have surgery on my feet and got out of the habit. Yes I have a big tool box with lots of tools which is much bigger and better then Ripleys. I used to have a big 4X4 pick up but my body is getting older and loves the smooth ride of my SUV. I would never wear pink anything.

AntiStereotypical-
I have fairly long nails but I would never be caught dead with nail polish. I like to cross stitch. We have 3 dogs, a bird, and yes a cat. I dont kill bugs. I am terrified of wasps or anything that I could perceive as a wasp. Basically if it flys and stings in anyway I will hurt you if you get in my way of running away.

Hmm that is all I can think of.

Well!

I'm definitely the tinker of the family and e-cig mod has become my new obsession. I also woodwork a bit, and know the general workings of a car. I could change my oil in the past, but cars have gotten so complex these days you need a computer to do anything anymore.

I also can sew (both by hand and machine), crochet and embroider when the mood strikes me. LOL, I can say all thanks to my parents, they wanted me to be well rounded. My wardrobe consists mainly of jeans and shirts, I don't own a dress .. but do own a tux.

Tx has already given the low-down on the furry, four-legged children. I guess we're kind of an androgynous couple, and we like to shock our medium sized community by holding hands in WalMart.

And yes, while Tx DOES have a bigger tool box, I had mine first .. and hers is a girly blue.. :p Mine is classic Craftsman RED.
I guess I'm the family RAID as well, half the time she won't get close enough to identify the type of bug, much less if it's still alive.

OMG the first time I grabbed her hand in public I thought she was gonna push me down and run away. LOL

Yes my dark blue tool box is SO much better looking their her beat up run down crappy craftsman.

lol

I am the family Raid, too. I was actually awakened 2 hours before my wakeup time one night by my wife and our gay boy roommate shrieking and climbing all over the furniture. I stumbled out of the bedroom to find the cats all too interested in one corner and the humans standing on the sofa with the ottoman standing on its end like a shield against the bug in the corner. All over a millipede. Millipedes are creepy, but not harmful. I actually had to tear the living room apart, moving furniture to get this millipede before I could go back to bed - or face the doghouse for a week.

I am so very grateful this forum is all MINE. My wife has absolutely no interest in my e-cig obsession, especially now that I have started tinkering with it. I finally have someplace that people get to know me without her side of the story - our friends, mostly single gay men, must think all we do is bicker (it's actually very playful bickering most of the time).;)

Stereotypical - I'm a hairstylist. I think about sex probably twice as much as straight men. love theatre and showtunes. i exhibit oral fixation (obviously). mama's boy. i think sports are incredibly boring (excluding swimming, gymnastics and wrestling for obvious reasons and hockey because i love a good fight). i've been known to have a limp wrist or a pinky up on occasion. i'm well versed in pop culture. i was a complete ..... when i was younger (TMI).

Astereotypical - I am not a neat freak (quite the opposite). no gay voice. not a twink (shaving is exhausting). i can barely dress myself. i'm not surrounded by hags. hate dancing. i don't desire being the center of attention. i don't lay in a tanning bed all day. i'm not a pill popper. i'd choose a beer over a fru-fru drink anyday.

Also, I'm curious what traits everyone exhibits. Biologists have been linking some predominant physical traits to us homosexuals including left-handedness, counterclockwise hair whorls, and being a younger sibling. I'm sure there's more but those are the ones I can remember.

I am left handed, I have a clockwise whorl and I am a younger sibling. Two out of three ain't bad. My partner is right handed, has a clockwise whorl and is an older sibling. He's bisexual though so maybe he doesn't fit the pattern....

Predominantly righthanded, but can do ANYTHIING with either. Second to the youngest of seven and the only girl. My father wanted me to be 'Daddy's little girl' but not in the way I was meant to be - he wanted Shirley Temple, and later Gidget, he got a tomboy who followed him everywhere and imitated everything he did. No whorls, just cowlicks. I do have the ring finger longer than index finger trait they are linking with lesbianism.

I'm pretty andro, at least that's what my partner tells me. I don't understand that because I wear boys clothes, a ball cap, flip fops are my favorite. I love camping and fixing my car. The feel of oil and car dirt on my hands is the best in the world. For my birthday I got a drill...lol. I have long curly hair but it's always up in a ponytail and I always have a hat on.

I'm right-handed, I'm a Sagittarius, I love sports, beer, and I'm an environmentalist (but I don't smell like patchouli). I like being the rock in the relationship and I don't like to cry. I'm a feminist and I went to school for social justice. I love cooking but I hate baking. I'm very blunt and love trying new things.
