Why are 18650 batteries so popular in regulated mods when 26650 are about

Apart from the obvious which is size I'd of thought a single 26650 battery regulated mods would be quite popular but there's not many

Personally? The box mods are getting too large. I prefer the smaller devices that are easily taken with me as I'm out and about. Bigger is not always better, especially in the case of regulated mods.

I suspect part of the issue is on the production side.
The 26650 size seems to be just about the same size as the regular 'D' size batteries.

From the manufacturing side, you don't want the consumers to be interchanging lithium batteries with other more common types such as the non-rechargeable alkaline batts and the NiCd rechargeables.

I think from the popular 'little itty bitty mods' thread says a lot. Size and weight are factors. Unless someone needs an all day batt for work or elsewhere, most 18650's provide close to that or carrying on extra batt - or a mod with two of them is the best solution for those with the size consideration. And around 50% of vapers have smaller hands :- )

These things also tend to run in waves. Around here last year it seemed 26650 mech mods, both tube and box, were all the rage then it seemed it suddenly stopped. I still use mine occasionally but I believe the thickness may be an issue especially with so many dual 18650 mods available.
