Yeah, but up off the deck, I don't know that the coil would get wet. Mesh idea is good though. Mesh or a couple of short strands of Nextel or Ekcowool that the coil could sit on. I'll probably try the mesh... though the main point of this experiment is to try to get a stove top coil working...- Vego

Ekowool is Awesome
Perhaps we got our Ekowool from different vendors with different suppliers, but there is 1mm Ekowool which is braided. I got mine from Stormysvaporcellar. 1mm Ekowool on bottom, compared to 1mm silica.- Vego

This is what I've noticed too. But the flavor is superior enough over silica that I'll continue to use the Ekowool. Definitely gonna grab some of that Nextel sooner or later too.- Vego

I think I may have fibbed in my opening post when I said my concoction wasn't that bad. After vaping it awhile, and a few others I made, I'm finding they're really not good. I'm tempted to say it's because the flavoring I have is plain old crappy - nothing seems to impart the flavor I intend for... -

Cheapie RDA from Fasttech...noob question
Also, it's to be expected to still get decent vapor production as the wick/coil begin to get dry... for a little while anyway. With a dripper though, it's all in the flavor. When it starts to taste muted or off, it's time to add more drops, regardless of the vapor production. It's pobably safe...- Vego

I think if you're differenciating extreme burn at the back of the throat with simple burnt taste, that would be more akin to a mostly dry wick on an otherwise fully energized and evenly glowing coil.
