It sounds like your coil position is good. Air travels in the path of least resistance, meaning the top airflow holes are where a bulk of the air coming in comes from - I’d actually be shocked if any air comes in from the bottom airflow hole. So I’d say you’re good there, and I wouldn’t drop it...
