After getting some really nasty burnt taste I tried to let it sit and soak, and the burnt taste went away, so it may not be residue after all but bad wicking. Guess I'll keep experimenting for now. If anybody has any insight, I'm all ears.
I've having issues with my Vapefly Alberich, it produces a sort of burnt flavor after vaping for less than a day (I'm guessing about 10 refills with the 3ml plastic tank). The cotton is fine, but there's plenty of residue on the coil. I've tried using plain 3.0mm inner diameter spaced coil and...
That thing looks amazing. Don't know why the Topside has so much more mindshare. Can't seem to find a video of the mod's internal, but one person did show the internal of the squonk backpack, which seemed robust enough, one thing that jumped out at me was the presence of zip-ties around the...
@RuiG the dimensions don't match the ones on the Wasp Nano BF Pin page, but I'll double check myself. Do you think it's a good idea to buy the Topside Dual despite the reports of leaking, or should I wait for another 2+ battery squonk mod? Ideally I want a sub-$120 DNA 250C mod or a sub-$50...
@RuiG well, that's ominous, what happens if I squeeze too hard?
@puffon I'm more concerned about the liquid wrecking the mod rather than leaking out, though that would be annoying too. I've heard some complaints about liquid getting inside the Topside Dual and frying the board.
I'm thinking of buying my first bottom feeding mod (Dovpo Topside Dual) to supercharge my Wotofo Profile RDTA (great flavor when freshly dripped, not perfect wicking performance), and remembered that I own an RDA that is squonk-capable: the Wasp Nano. However, I have noticed that most modern...
@Seiggy thanks a lot for your help, and everybody else who contributed their expertise. It was driving me crazy that every reviewer had said that the RDTA wicked fine, but I was having constant dry hits.
Unbelievable. At first I thought the welding marks were the refraction of light through eliquid droplets. Why Wotofo thought it would be a good idea to make the steel wicks directional and not tell the user is beyond me.
Since the last time I put the steel wicks in, only 1 out of 4 had been...
I cut back on the cotton by 50%, so the tails should be much thinner than in the original image. I also tried cutting them at an angle (shorter at the top) and only placing the thin bottom end of the wick on top of the ropes. Unfortunately, they still barely pull any liquid up from the tank...
Ah, I see. It seemed like you were describing 2 different techniques:
1. 2 cotton strings on the botton, 1 string unrolled on top of them.
2. 1 cutton string on the bottom, 2 cotton strings on top of it.
Is that right?
Why do coils/mesh need to cool down? If anything, I should think the...
I'm not sure I understand, are strips and strings different? I assumed you were using them interchangeably, but now it sounds like strips are, well, strips of cotton pads, while strings are the ones you get with aglets from various brands. Is that right? That would explain why I didn't see...
Look great, I can't even tell it uses 3 separate threads. I think using 3 threads naturally created a few air channels between them that enable the tank to breathe a bit.
That's impossible, the barrel has notches that cover both ports. The last picture was with the barrel on, that's why the ports weren't visible, but you can see the 2 gold triangles of the barrel's notches in the top left and bottom right corners.
So I repeated the experiment with turning the RDTA upside down without the ropes and it still didn't wick or leak. That told me the tank is effectively sealed by the cotton tails in the wicking ports. After about 3 more attempts to get the wicking right (with the ropes reinstalled), I ended up...
Put the RDTA upside down on the table with juice in the tank for 10 minutes to see how well it would wick that way, got about 1.5 hits before I started feeling the tell-tale flavor of a semi-dry wick. No liquid on the desk. It seems the steel ropes act more like a cork than a wick.
I tried using half as much cotton (normally I use 1 pad with the skins removed, this time I cut it in half and removed the skins), and the result was the same, so I don't think that's the issue. In case some are wondering how it's possible that a wick with half the amount of cotton to work the...
