I did a few more leather projects, made some progress on the reno stuff, and then . ..
had a funny turn of events.
I got harvested.

. . . I'd say "poached"; but I think you have to have a real job to get poached
from . .. . so, harvested.

. . . like a turnip . . .. just minding its own business.
Anyway, we have a contractor friend who runs a small company that does high-end residential (some remodel and some new build); and he's been nudging me to "be his trim carpenter" for, IDK, last couple years? So, in a moment of sure-why-not, I said, "sure, why not?" to a particular, limited scope job. He's a great guy, and a pleasure to work with. It's a large handful of big built-in book cases for one of his current jobs.
I've reconfigured the
shop to basically what it was originally designed for, and have gotten started buzzing through about 21 sheets of hardwood ply.
It'll be interesting, good change of pace, and a good way of feeling out whether I might want to play around with this somewhat more mundane and yet more lucrative type of work for a while. Also a great way to just get out of my own little world and get busy with something straightforward.
I can't say where this train I'm on is headed; but I think I wouldn't mind some kind of on-and-off thing. Something where I work for him when there's a job that I'm particularly the right guy for, and do leatherworking in the tween times. IDK; but I am kind of excited that I find myself tooled and skilled in a variety of niches (mostly due to curiosity + passage of time). It is kind of nice to hop back into this old pair of shoes and find that they still fit.
