My mom is one of those "aren't you afraid you're going to get eaten by sharks" alarmists.
We went on a snorkeling tour to Molokini (the 1/2 moon crater island) the tour guide says they do have "incidents" but they almost always involve spear fishing which creates blood in the water. Although the surfers look like a good meal when looking from the bottom up. The surf board looks like a big fish to them.
If by chance you do run into one, and they're curious about you, punch them in the nose, it's very sensitive and there's a good chance it will scare them off long enough to get back in the boat.
It can be difficult to tell who to believe when you see the media hype but after being there, I would tend to side with the folks who have been there on the water their whole life.
We don't taste good to them, there are plenty of other tasty meals swimming around.

I wonder if something that nutrilizes PH would help, at least with the (acidic) sting. Probably wouldn't be much help with the paralizing part.
I wouldn't think urine would be much help. I'm probably waaaa off though.

so, one time he had responded (again) to someone, saying (again) that the person was wrong and stupid and didn't know what they were talking about,
and that he knew (everything), and he wrapped it up by saying, "you can't pee down my neck and tell me it's raining!".
..... and I so, so, soooooo wanted to pipe in with a quick, "maybe no; but I'd sure like to give it my best shot"
