When you get all settled Bee, My Black Ash burl pinch really needs this..... I think the Fatdaddy classic in it is kind of wonky. I have a nuppin' all set up and it's working fine, but I'm afraid to try a different atty on it because of previous problems you already know about. I've noticed seepage even being super careful and only using that one nuppin atty. No matter how careful I am, I'll pull off the top to change the battery and notice damp areas all over the place and I'm pretty sure it's originating from the 510. So please pencil me in for a retro-fit when you are ready.

Without honestly wanting to knock FD's 510 I gotta say they have a serious problem of machining tolerance as well as consistency. I've got off FD over 30 of the classic 510's and I seriously doubt any two meter the same.

The inner diameters are all over the place

retrofitting was def. on my mind while spec.ing these. I made every effort* to insure success on that front. I hadn't thought it would get listy tho, and honestly don't want it to. Just shoot me a PM if it's something you'll want, please. I'm guessing that, with retrofit, there may be any number of other or related services depending on the specific instance. So, let's just case-by-case per PM. Make sense?





*except going to the moon. :| I did not, actually, go to the moon in my efforts.
. . . also, too, can't say I made up a pitcher of ice tea, as specifically related to efforts per 510; nor named a dog "David" as integral to said pursuits.

I'll add that retrofit would be silly if everything is running smoothly.

There's not going to be any amazing difference in performance, in daily use, to the person who's 510 is functioning just fine (which I would assume to be the overwhelming majority*). If it works, don't fix it. Certainly not enough to warrant shipping, empty-nest, surgery.

I would consider this to be a small step in the ongoing pursuit to do the best that I can, is all.


*I went thru a lot of effort and took all the time (and repetition) needed to inspect, caliper, test, reject, re-order, discuss, argue, demand . . . . yada . . . to insure that the small percentage of the previous 510s that I accepted and installed were going to serve well. Thus, in very large part, they should be fine.

Couple of other notes, pertinent . ..

Obviously, in pursuing this line of thinking (been thinking about this 510 thang for some time now), I considered whether it would be an expense considered worthwhile by my customers, peeps, y'all. It didn't take long to come to the conclusion that it's totally worth a few bucks to make a fancy mod complete with high-end custom hardware. (otherwise it'd be like skinning the cat and then not eating the delicate .... fat. . . . like, who would do that?)

My pricing on the mods was already buffer-free. I left no headroom for increased costs in materials, parts, etc.

So, I am going to have to adjust mod pricing to accommodate the difference in materials cost to me per these new 510s. I sincerely hope that you folks see eye to eye with me on the value*. It's really not hardly anything per mod; but in aggregate, will go towards me paying off the bill from the machine shop.

Pinch mods will be $384.

I'll be posting this info in the Reference Thread, along with pricing for Li'l Punch and Giggity-Nutpunch ("Nutter") mods .. . in the fullness of time. Generally, I mean to update over there with some more formal description/offering of the Punch & Nutter. I would like to make these 510 assemblies available to hobby modders & friends (on a small scale). Will probably post some pricing for that as well.



*On the outside chance that someone is not comfortable with my having made this decision unilaterally (the 510 decision, w/ its ramifications), please feel free to notify me in a timely fashion, and I'll machine your cap to house the previous brand of 510 and save you the ten dollars.
