They are rather good. They are a typical side dish if you buy from a fish and chip shop and they come in little polystyrene pots.

There are annual competitions for the best 'chippy' or fish and chip shop. Some people like their mushy peas with vinegar. Before curry overtook it in popularity, fish and chips was the national dish of England.

i have had to go to great lengths to teach HRH how to make: mushy peas, steak and kidney pie, toad in the (hat, she calls it) hole, and other delicacies such as suet dumplings that i cannot buy here.

:grr: F & C was a grand tradition here, following the wars, we got lots of greeks

greeks opened fish and chip shops [that also served souvlaki] and they did it well

modern greek australiand want to go to uni and be managers, pilots, all manner of things that should be unconstitutional for the rightful owners of fish and chip shops

Go figure, you can't find fish and chips in Greece if your life depended on it

Greek pilots - how preposterous!

i have fond memories of my chippy and the old lady that ran it. She had done so for 40+ years and she was bald and white (so a lot like me really) and her name was Ivy; she was 92 when she retired.
If i'd scammed some money at school at poker, i'd go there on my way home and she would always cook for me cod roe in batter.

If i'd lost money and had none, she'd give me for free 'batter bits' which are basically the scrapings from the fryer and rather good they are too!

The jokes we used to make about saveloys!

There's a new series of my favourite programme - Australian Masterchef and since Oz is so close to those Asian places, there's a lot of that 'fusion' cooking going on.

HRH knows all that stuff and if you Google the most highly rated and popular dish in the world, something i call 'Smurfie rice' or nasi goreng is up there.

Which also has nothing to do with Greeks.

So i suppose the only way to get fish and chips is for the US to declare war on England.

Strange days indeed.
