the resin/hybrid tale is a convoluted one. Just by chance, a couple of the first blocks that were sent to me were bunkus. Meantime, then, Capt Steve educated us a bit about what goes into making a reliable resin/hybrid block. Then came the realization that there's all kinds of hacks out there, pouring moondust candles into sand-wishes and calling it hybrid and "resin cast". So, long short, a well made resin-cast/hybrid block is something I'm happy to work with; and/but which one that is takes a bit of checking and sometimes a bit of risk taking. The guy at Islewoods (Danny) is doing some proper casting (using pressure, versus vacuum or "gravity"), and certainly there are others as well. He, however, has some blocks that are stabilized and then cast, some that are natural (not stabilized) but don't need stabilizing .. .and then cast, and some that just won't do as they are not stabilized before resin-casting and not suitable material au naturel. So, even with someone like him, it is best to ask (him or me) and/or check the description carefully.
