I was further refining my tooling and techniques for Nuttersquonks today. Same general system, but some tweaks and ingenuity and some fancy German Forstner-bittage to up my game on these. As is typical with me, doesn't make it any faster; simply more refined. Last month's bandsaw-angledy-fencing system went like clockwork on this batch in the blank cutting phase (a number of days ago). Always nice to see a system play out nicely after the added time of establishing it.

are you talking about Horst Miebach bits? they call them colt maxicut here I think. friggin amazing forstner bits, almost no heat and super fast cuts, perfectly flat bottom with just a tiny little center dimple. they also do them in metric sizes but I haven't found any us distributors for metric other than thebestthings.com and I never ordered from them. everyone else only has inch sizes in the us.
if you ever get a chance just try a colt maxi cut. nothing short of amazing, they blow everything else away. the ones you're using still heat up the bore pretty good, the maxi cuts don't ride the walls of the bore at all, they cut like a milling bit with only the cutting edge touching the walls, they go through the wood much faster with much less heat and are very easy to sharpen. I promise after you use them you'll never want to use anything else
thanks, man. I'll give them a try if I'm ever using Forstners for deep bores. I tend not to do that tho, as I get faster, truer bores with completely different bits. I use the Forstners for shallow, stopped bores and for chasing out the very bottoms of the bores I've done elsewise (in these cases, I want the bottom truly flat). In the latter instance, the multiple serrations grazing and tracking the walls are ideal, and I don't get heat building. Also, in yet another application, I use the sides with multiple serrations to purposely "ride the walls", almost like routing or planing them. So, they work great for me.

I second what Turbo said, I invested in a set of metric and imperial (from Germany) MaxiCut Forstner bits and I gotta say never seen any other Forstner bit cut like they do. They have unique chip breaking grooves and just glide through even the hardest stab woods. What I really love about them is that they have fantastic self locking extension bits you can get for them for deep boring.
