y'all know how we decant wine? . . .. for the purpose (or one of two purposes) of "aerating" it? . .. . of "oxygenating" it? . .. of purposely mixing it with oxygen?

I've always wondered if the benefits of glass over plastic outweigh the process of pouring the liquid from one container to the other. I just can't picture that much oxygen migrating thru plastic in undisturbed bottles in the deep freeze. I kin'a wonder if just not even opening the plastic bottle when it arrives, just putting it straight into the freezer, isn't as good a method as any.

I just wonder sometimes.

That sounds reasonable to me and I'm wondering how it leaches anything in a frozen state.

I've wondered the same thing. I do have some nic in plastic, primarily for first use and the rest are NN V1 Armor for longer term storage so I didn't need to decant it. I do know that if I put something in the freezer in a plastic container, I have had flavor bleed from other things which says to me that those pesky little molecules do get around.

I thought that too, plus just the hassle of rebottling...I waited for a payday and spent a bit extra for my "longest term" storage-stuff to get nic I know I like; in glass; in smaller bottles to begin with. I figure five years from now, when I open up one of those and it's "good as fresh," the extra few bucks will have been well worth it...

It's not a question of the plastic "leaching" - but even the best plastic is permeable. Over time stuff can get in - stuff can get out.

Now go open that plastic 2 liter bottle of soda that's been sitting in your basement for the last year. See what you get.

I have always followed the recommendations of transferring to glass, I go the extra step of purging my bottles with argon. I just got quite a few more bottles in the last month, that I put straight in the freezer, until I can get more bottles. I hope I can get some of them this week, I have not received a shipping notice yet.
