first and foremost is the med tweaks, to stop my brain sounding like this. So i am capable of dealing with people

told a fairy recent talk therapist that she only sees men as an erection on legs. Is such a filthy ..... that she has syphilis and a .... oozing with puss for example

even the med tweak has to be gradual, so anything beyond that it way down the track until my brain quietens

K, so, did you just think that or actually say it?

It really hit a nerve for her. She proceeded to rant how she was in an arranged marriage. Had only had one sexual partner. But had learned to love him

I think that my reaction was maybe what they call ASD meltdown. Coupled with the OCD thoughts, it just gets ugly

Then I spend hours each day Reliving it. And Flashforwards to imagined stomping her skull into the ground. And send her grumpy old man letters blaming her to try to cope

I learned how to change the channel, at least, what works for me.

I called my spiritual advisor one day because I felt like I might be going crazy.

After some questions to get me to answer them for myself, like, what have you been thinking about the last few hours, we/I came to the conclusion that I had been cycling a negative thought process over and over again.

My brain was on K-F%%K radio and I needed to change the channel.

Made a list of positive things to think about, over and over again for at least a solid 1/2 hour. Sure enough that changed the channel to K-Lite.

Works for me. Easier said than done, but it worked.

:p

there isn't a "dramatic" button.
but, nicely put. :)

As to the other topic. . . ..

I sometimes see the human as a (very) complex and interwoven system of algebraic functions.
between our genetics and our experiences, we end up with a large set of specific algebraic equations.
So, input X always results in action/emotion/thought Y (but any real input has a multitude of factors, and so not so easy to read like "X" → "Y")

When we decide to take up yoga, or eat better, or excercise, we are basically changing the input . . .. and we get different results.
But the algebraic functions remain the same.
The brain is a lazy beast (or, more acurately, is big on conservation of energy expended) and it will always default to auto-pilot whenever possible/"feasible".
So the algebra just runs its course, and "suffices".

I do think there is a way to alter the algebra, tho.
And it's surprisingly simple; but does require a fair degree of attentiveness (and stamina).

Pick a function (a reaction, a habit, a way you always have to do a thing or respond to a thing).
[preferably, pick something smallish at first]

Observe yourself. Observe your reaction.
Make a sincere and conscious choice, a decision:
"I would really like for this function to change".
"I would like to be more like that".
(a specific desired reaction/output)

Observe your reaction every time it occurs.

Let yourself (not your concious blathermind; but all of your self) take care of it for you.

o_O boy, does that sound stupid, or what?
It works tho.

The concept is so simple it might "sound" stupid.

I had frequently heard the concept "Change your thoughts - change your world". It wasn't until years later I found out what it really meant. There is a whole philosophy and phycology around it.

I think it's a little different for everyone, the input they "choose" that makes sense to them, and ones goals in life.

It was a significant and profound positive turning point in my life when I learned that I could actually "choose" what to think about, and that the "input" had an almost direct bearing on the "outcome".
It really can be a powerful force!

The brain really is a lazy beast. As for myself, I know that if I leave my brain on auto-pilot, it tends to gravitate towards the negative. Left without positive input I begin to feel like crap. Maybe even depressed and sometimes physically ill.

Years ago, once I had made this discovery, I even read up on subliminal programming (subconscious "input"). There are canned premade versions of it, and others where you can alter and control the "input" for a more focused desired outcome. I never actually pulled the trigger and started doing it, but it made sense to me at that point, and I believe it works.

There are times still when I think I might still give it a go.

I really like the way you put it though. It really expands on it to add actions to the equation.

My teachers always told me if I could learn to write the same way I verbally communicate, I could write books.

I was thinking in terms of a formula where input = output. What you write does make sense though, looking back.

Appreciate the feedback.

Spot-on! And absolutely not Stupid in any way shape or form. :)

What you communicated is very Buddhist in nature. IMHO Buddhism is by far more of a basic psychology into understanding ones Self versus a religion.

Observation, without getting hung up, or stuck, on what is observed is a key to success. It's allowing the thoughts to simply be and not judge or become emotionally attached to them. Unattached. Getting to that point requires very determined practice over time.

Working on quieting the mind will help on a Grand Scale. Meditation. Proper meditation requires a good deal of discipline. It can take much practice over time to realize success... but if determined, success will be found.

I think it's pretty simple really. If we continue to feed the lazy mind with garbage, or negativity, the result will be more of the same in Life. We are what we feed ourselves with.

In order to change, or improve, anything we need to be the actively involved participant. One must want to create and be the change and then work diligently to effect change. Cause and Effect.

I hope y'all don't mind my :2c: contribution to the conversation here.

Enjoy your Day everyone!
