04050 problem

i am using a 04050 on a VV mod, using a 4.7k and 15k resistor on a 50k pot. 1 100uf capacitor on V in and 1 100uf capacitor on v out. for the battery im using a 3000mah 18650. the switch is a 3A push button from the shack.

the problem is, when there isnt an atomizer i get proper range from 3.8 to 6.1 volts, however when the atomizer is attached it will not go above 3.8v, and seems to go down as i turn the pot up to where it should be 6.1v. is it possible that my battery is bad? thanks for replies in advance.

btw, i have essentially stole the design from breakthru's .44mini

also all connections are good and solid, just went back through and re-checked them to be sure since my soldering isnt always exactly great.

if you use atty under 2 ohm it`s normal to have only 3.8V under load. That it`s booster

ok, jus used another atomizer and it went up to 5ish v, how would i make it go to a higher voltage with a 2.0ohm atomizer? would it fix the problem if i throw a diode in there?

You are hitting the 12W limit. With a 2Ω resistance this will work if the v-out is set to lower voltage through resistors and pots within the circuit, but a diode just takes off voltage after the circuit, without changing the formula to bring you under the 12W. The 3.8v you are getting is most likely the bare battery voltage being passed through the overloaded booster minus resistance from the booster.

thats what i get for not reading the specs :/lol. ok so a 3ohm atomizer should put me right at the 12w limit and get me to my 6v max if im not mistaken. thanks for your help folks, appreciate it.

ok, so with the 4050 booster, im really finding it lacking in abilities, so why would anyone use it for a VV mod?. im not really getting any better hit from it than i would from my eGo, so whats the deal. if i am already hitting the threshold even, if i manage to get it at 6v with a 3ohm atty its not going to hit any better if im still at 12w right?

You aren't quite at the threshold, you are just trying to cross it. This makes the booster shutdown and restart in an inefficient manner very quickly which you can hear as a whine. When you are within limits it can work quite well and the 12W isn't a problem. I've never tried 6v on 4050, but would suspect in real world usage you would need ~3.5Ω as slimest suggests. Also, large or high drain cells to provide enough current.

so what if i put a resistor between Vo and the battery connector? or would that be just like using a higher resistance atomizer?

That wouldn't help and it would be like running a 100' wire from the mod to the atty, you would get less from the atty and the booster would have to work harder than before. I'm curious, what resistances are your atties? You mentioned the 2 ohm, but is that in your higher range or lower. Also, what battery are you using?

See the video. Using a 1.8 ohm boge carto at 5.9v with NO drop in voltage. I bumped it off camera to 6.2v but the meter went haywire. Although it produced heavy vapor which was more than the 5.9v result.

Ffwd, If you have two of those batteries you could rig the second in parallel to the first just for testing and see how it does.

I also have a video showing a PTN04050c boost circuit, a 14500 - 900mah Li-ion with a 1.9 ohm atomiser at 5.0v and NO voltage drop with load attached.

You now have a very reliable batteries. Good choice! If these are genuine, you even can use them without a stabilized converter. Their voltage is very stable. For example, one battery works between 4.2 and 3.5 volts. Some guys buy these batteries to use with direct connection, without any boosters or bucks.
