I recently bought a big batch of juices from Jugheads. Was really excited to get the juice and to try them. Received it, poured some in my atty and then filled a vivi nova with my favourite.... IT IS NASTY! I dont get much flavor, seems to be like a burnt taste and its really hard on my throat(which is not supposed with VG right?). Didn't have any problem with that vivi nova with 70/30 PG/VG. Any idea what i'm doing wrong? Sorry i'm new to all this, just started vaping a month ago and 3 weeks without analogs now!

You can trim the wicks down and pull them apart at the ends to help but I havent honestly seen many people having luck with clearomizers and 100 percent VG......you can also try bumping the voltage up if you a Variable voltage device.

Theres another thread here discussing ways to rebuild the ViVi to optimize flavor http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/rebuildable-atomizer-systems/363746-vivi-nova-muted-flavor-2.html

Wish I could help more but this seems to be a pretty common issue with these.

I'm vaping 100% VG in my Vivi Novas, and they work great after I chucked the stock wick/coil and started rebuilding my own. In my opinion, the stock coils on the VNs are wound 'way too tight, choking off the juice flow. With thick juice, like Boba's Bounty, these 'pinched" coils just can't wick the juice properly. I re-wrap a 3/2 coil of 36 gauge Kanthal A-1 on a strand of 3mm silica wick. I use the good silica sold by COV for use in the Odysseus and Penelope RBAs. Works like a champ, for me ...

bahh that's silly ....I have been using 100% vg in CE's for 2 years ....
it does help to thin it if NOT pre-thinned which most comm. vg juices are now ....
& I use the stock coils ....which work great ....

but from reading the post ...it sounds like you need to clean your vivi coil ....

have you been cleaning (dryburning) coil every few tanks ?

It could very well be a wicking issue, we were discussing that last night in chat. Also someone here noticed that the Nova was showing a full ohms difference in resistance when measured dry and then full of juice.

Would be nice if we could someone with an ohm meter to confirm that instead of checking with a Provari or Zmax.

At 2 ohms with a carto tank my juice tastes GREAT at 4.2-4.4 volts and then rapidly starts becoming burnt past that and is unvapeable at 5.0ohms.

After seeing that post I grabbed my wifes Provari with a Nova to check it out and @ 2 ohms I was able to bump it up to 5.2 volts without a burning taste and a big improvement in flavor. This seems to confirm the Nova changes resistances with juice and also explains some people experiencing it and not. With a VW device it would adjust accordingly.

Dont mean to hijack this thread just leaving this here in case someone wants to check up on this.

Its not silly at all. A LOT of people are reporting problems with higher vg juices in these.Maybe youve just grown accustomed to it since youve been using them for 2 years?

It also sounds like you D.I.Y so are more familiar with cutting juices, thats not something that a lot of us care to do. Im using a 10/90 pg/vg mix that has a lot of flavoring in it (and is thinner) from Alien Visions and theres a big difference in flavor between the genuine Novas and my carto tank.

stock vivis don't play well with vg juices for me either skelling, I don't think it's your fault. I love Juggies vg line but they are high viscosity.
I'd suggest using cartos or a dripping atomiser for the vg line for now. If you are handy and interested enough to do some modding/rebuilding of a vivi then you can get them to work great with thick vg juices. But until then you'll fight to get a good toot on a stock vivi. I agree with Scott, the stock wicks are choked and can't wick the thick juice fast enough.
If you ever get into modding\rebuilding , here's what I do. I enlarge/round out the bottom of the wick slots, wrap a larger diameter coil to match the new round slots, notch the silicon seal that go over the slots, and use cotton wick that fit in loosely and expands to about the right diameter to fill things out. Then all is golden for me. I'm vaping vg jokesmoke in a modded vivi at 9.5 watts tonight.

I find rebuilding fun and interesting. But a bit confusing at first. Youtube is a great resource, this forum can be too but it's such a big pig it takes a while to find the good nuggets of info. My method comes from a forum thread on rebuilding vivis, can't remember which one though. Watch a bunch, read a bunch, try some out, use what works for you. Good luck!

so after reading responses....
the problems maybe that you are just using too High of a voltage w/the Novas ...
wicked things prefer LOW Voltages ... they were designed for Ego etc ... 3.3v-4.0v

....higher than that & you will get dry hits
especially if your device is wpm (I think that is the term ?) ie: provari,zmax,veri-stack

my veri-stack is really hot & I use it @ 3.v-3.4v on my nova

PWM is what you're thinking of, Pulse Width Modulation.

thanks ...I was close

....another thought I had after my last post is that maybe folks are unaware of

HOW TO set up a Nova (wick type) device for 1st use ....priming & LOW voltage are key !!

so when you set up a new coil or coil head for 1st use,
you should remove silicone cup cap & drop a drop or 2 of juice down on coil,
then a few drops down on wicks on both sides ...then replace cap & fill tank ...

if you are using a VV Batt/mod ALWAYS start with lowest setting ...
take a few hits then move up a notch ...& repeat till you get to dry hits,
then dial it back a notch ... ie: finding the sweet spot :D
and after the new coil breaks in (half tank/tank) you can try turning it up again .

It doesn't matter what the coil is supposed to be Omh'ed at
each coil is different & will have a different outcome.
Outcomes will also be different as per different devices/juices/batts & the different combinations.

This thread has opened my eyes to the possibility that my nova may have muted flavor. I have been diy'ing and have used 100% VG except for the flavors which are pre-cut with PG. I am satisfied with how it vapes but I think I may have forgotten how nice it tasted with some higher PG juices. I found the following video tip I may use as well. Improving Vivi Nova airflow and wicking - YouTube The description of the video also includes a link for cotton wick.
