10440 battery length difference

I just found that there is a difference in some of the 10440 batteries, in my case it's the length.

I bought some 10440 protected batteries through the classifieds without being aware of the possibility of a difference in length. I needed them for the inline battery replacement on a 510 passthrough.

Alas, when I received them, they are just about an 1/8th to a 1/4 inch too long to fit in the battery compartment.

Has anyone else run into batteries marked with the same number, but of different lengths?

I am going to try these in some other 510 PT's I have and see if they may fit in those, just have not gotten around to it yet.

Just wondering how you would know when ordering what length they will be.

I know I have read about users who just cut the wires on each end of the battery compartment then spliced them together, eliminating the inline battery, but I don't know how much luck I would have with that.

I have accumulated 11 510pt's over the last year, and if I ever let my usb power pack run down and don't notice until the pt battery is also dead, seems the battery will not recharge. I am waiting on a separate battery charger I ordered to try on some of the dead batts I have, but not sure if that will work.

At least I have two that are working now, so I can afford to play around with them.

All the protected 10440's will be 2mm (less then 1/8") longer due to the protection circuitry.

Unprotected will be the normal size. It's a shame that the protection will prevent some items from working safely.

If your device has the clearance in the battery spring it should still work fine.

well, the ones I have tried so far do NOT fit, but I am going to dig out my old PT's where is still might fit, and if they don't fit in those, might use those to try the splicing thing... again, I have two that working now with the shorter batteries.

Maybe my old batteries (all shorter, came with the PT's) will charge on the charger I ordered... we will see

Not 100% sure if this helps, but normally a protected battery will be a little longer than one that is unprotected. I've posted the below link several times in the past and you may find it very useful to help you understand better.

I found this out when I received my first lazer, the 10440 was very hard to get in. I odered another lazer but this time with 10440's from Ikenvape and they fit perfectly. I don't know if they're protected or not but they fit well.
