So I know I need an 18650, or, you know, four of them. But I'm so broke I can't even pay OH! Look! A bird! .... Sorry.

I figured cyber monday would be a good time to look into buying batteries, since my loverly woman and SkinyFatMan are pitching in together and getting me a Vamo V5 for my birthday.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

My best tip

don't buy any battery that has fire in the name ie: truefire, trustfire (yeah, ok) etc. these are cheap, inexpensive batteries that do not work well with APV's - they are designed for low load flashlights

go for IMR, Efest, Panasonic, Sony, etc (oh and unprotected - protected batts won't fit in your vamo - too long)

R-lsales Samsung INR18650-20R vs FT Sony 10A 18650
Samsung 20R 18650 about 4 days old.
Sony 10A 18650 about 2 weeks old.

Atty is Trident 0.6 ohm quad coil.
Device is china junk with hot spring.

Voltage with 0.6 ohm load:
Samsung 20R = 3.86v
Sony 10A = 3.65v

No load voltage after load test:
Samsung 20R = 4.2v
Sony 10A = 4.19 v

Voltage drop:
Samsung 20R = 0.34v
Sony 10A = 0.54V

BTW: My protected 18350 ultrafire and trustfire batts seemed to outlast AW IMR, efest IMR and nhaler IMR in 2 amp PV applications. Performed well till shrink wrap worn out. Not sure why so many ****fire haters. Protected batts are not designed for high drain applications. Pros and cons. Don't see need for fire haters; just avoid counterfeits and use within design parameters.

Some mods require flat bottom and shrink wrap extended over outer edges of bottom to avoid misfire.
The Samsung 20R has flat bottom and shrink wrap is extended about 1/8" on bottom; good.
The Sony 10amp has shrink wrap but protruding bottom may cause issue w/ some mods.

Flat top vs button top should be considered. Total batt length is important for some PVs.

You surely want to compare prices but I got these: Panasonic NCR18650B 3400mAh Battery | Flat Top | eVic - EVcigarettes.com. They should work unless you need a battery with a "nipple".
Those batteries may "work", but they are not "ideal" for a regulated mod. These are not "high drain" batteries. (They have a 6.8 amp limit.)

Regulated mods use PWM (pulse width modulation) boost circuitry which can demand up to 2X the set amp current to achieve your desired voltage setting. http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/provape/334831-technical-why-high-drain-batteries.html

So, these batteries should not be used in regulated mods, mechanical mods using a Kick, or if you use an RBA/RDA.

These are the ones that I'm using in my Vamo V3 right now, but I got mine at fasttech. I highly recomment them, but maybe not right now with all the slowness in shipping from China.

Are those the pannys void of shrink wrap on the bottom?
Giving chiyou, vella, etc users an always firing problem.
Maybe no worries for Vamo vapers.

I am having a hell of a time finding any information about these batteries that I pulled out of an old Lenovo ThinkPad pattery pack- yes, I have tried google and to no avail. has anyone ever tried using the Green Sony US18650GR batteries in a mechanical mod WITHOUT a kick or penny/safety fuse?
I definitely would NOT use any battery removed from a computer. They are unprotected ICR batteries which should never be used in a mechanical or regulated mod. Useful for use in a flashlight, but not in a mechanical mod.

Bad is right. I bought a pair of the 3400 from FT and not really performing all that well in my Vamo. Bought them cuz they were cheap and based on the hype...GREAT batts but not on the Vamo.

Yes that's why use the Pan B's in Vamo as 1.3 is lowest capable ohm's and since 1.8 is what I'm using still far from thresh hold and the INR with 22A in my Mec Mod with Kick 2, should have really stated that it's your list but it's just a bookmark and I know who from, so thanks once again :)
