Some do and some don't. The problem is the batteries aren't made to consistent specifications. That's what I like about the AW line...consistency.

The batteries themselves meet the 18650 spec, but once they add the protection circuit it goes out the door. Sometimes they are wrapped tight and sometimes not.

Do the Ultrafire 3000mah 18650 fit? That's the only battery I have right now.... I'm gonna be disappointed if I can't use it where I'll be, since I won't have the time to get another battery.
They will fit if you slowly work them in, but it is a tight fit and the outer skin will get beat up. I'm using the 3000mah 18650 Ultra-Fire in my GGTS right now, but I am ordering 2400mah batts to replace the 3000mah.

Thanks for the heads up... I guess I'll order another 18650. What brand are you getting?

Don't get more, they will give you headaches in the near future. The fit is too tight and that makes it a real hassle to charge them. every time you pull the battery out for charging, you will do more damage to the outer jacket of the battery, causing a short in a matter of weeks, if not sooner.
I will have AW batteries here today that fit just fine. PLEASE DO NOT FORCE ANY BATTERY INTO YOUR GG TS - IF IT DOESN'T DROP IN EASILY, DON'T USE IT. You are running the risk of damaging the outter plastic covering which can result in shorting the battery.

I'll be ordering new batts from Rob at VK later tonight. Getting new batteries is a small price to pay in making sure that the GGTS doesn't catch fire in my pocket.

Why would you assume I would get the same battery if I was just told it doesn't fit?

Obviously I meant I'm getting a different battery. :)

Only 2 of 6 of my trustfire 18650's would fit. What I did was get a piece of sandpapper rolled it up and sand the inside of the brass sleeving a bit. Now they all fit. They still don't just drop right in, but I don't have to force them in either. If you don't already have batteries I would get the one Rob recommends.

I was getting my batteries from BatteryJunction, but if you read the specs on all of the 18650 protected batteries, it looks like the 3000mah battery has a smaller diameter than the other batteries.

Ultrafire 18650 3000mah BUTTON TOP Protected
Dimensions:
Diameter 18+/-0.2 mm
Height 66.5+/- 0.2mm

Ultrafire 18650 2400mah BUTTON TOP Protected
Dimensions:

Diameter 18.3+/-0.5 mm

Height 66.5+/- 0.5mm

But I was confused and thought you were going to order more 3000mah since I said they could fit if you squeezed them in:oops:
My bad...

When Rob gets the AW 18650's in stock, I'm pulling the trigger. I'm pretty sure my TL-100 universal charger will work with them.

Oh, that's odd.. guess we can't trust the listed specs. I'm sure we're probably not getting 3000mah either, lol.

Yeah, the AW looks like the way to go.. pricier than the others ($16 vs $10?), but worth it if it fits properly, and from what people are saying it's a good performer.

These are the specs of the protected AW 18650 I got from the web:

  • Constant Voltage : 3.7V
  • Capacity : 2600mAH ( rated at 0.2C discharge 4.2V - 2.8V @ 25℃ )
  • Operating Temp. : Charge 0 to 45℃ / Discharge -20 to 60 ℃
  • Max. Charge Rate : 2.6A ( ambient temp. 25 ℃ )
  • Max. Discharge Rate : 5.2A ( ambient temp. 25 ℃ )
  • Dimensions :18.52 X 68.16mm ( +/- 0.3mm )

From the listed diameter, this is actually thicker than the other two? Yet it fits fine... guess they're more consistent in size compared to the UltraFires. I like the fact that it has such a high max discharge rate.

If you put a dial caliper on those batteries you will see the specs aren't true.

I also believe the specs listed are for the battery cell without the protection circuit and wrapper. That's where the inconsistency comes from.

Never fear...I received an extremely heavy box today full of AW batteries :)

I'm going to try to get some of them online tonight.

I also put more 10440 protected batteries in stock tonight as well.

Thanks
Rob

Looking forward to getting the AW batteries, Rob.
You probably shouldn't trust the battery specs of a battery maker when they can't get their spelling down...

OK I've got the high drain LiMN orange 18650's online as well as the Li-ion black 18650's.

I'll get the CR123A 3.7v LiMN on tomorrow.

I also added 200 more of the 10440 protected batteries a little while ago. Those arrived today as well as re-stock on the other batteries. More Tenergy RCR123A 3.0v and chargers will be here tomorrow.

It's bed time.
