Not sure if this belongs in the rba forum, but...

I just built my first coil on a ProTank II head, using RiP Tripper's Nano Micro Coil build for Kanger Protank 2 - YouTube.

Materials used:

I know the .32 Kanthal is a little high for this build; I was originally going to start with a standard wrap on 3mm Ekowool and ordered materials appropriate for that, but then I happened on RiP's video and decided to try a micro.

The wicking is great, vapor production is increased, and the vapor itself is much smoother than the stock head. I'm also able to run this coil at higher wattage than the stock heads, which is great, since I enjoy a warm vape.

However, it seems like the flavor is muted. The first couple pulls also had a hint of an odd flavor to them - not burnt, but just not the flavor of my juice (Mt. Baker's Green Apple, 80PG/20VG). I only used a single wick, as the cotton is fluffy enough to plug the entry holes into the head and prevent leaking/gurgling without the addition of a flavor wick.

Should I try adding a flavor wick, or is there something else I'm missing?

If possible, picture(s) would help to see how much cotton you're using......
With cotton....LESS is generally better...it swells quite a bit when juice is applied....!!:D
Otherwise....looks like you've got your bases covered re: the build....I've only used 30ga. for my PT2 coils so far....but I have 32ga. ready for my next "wrap"!!;)
For yucks...try pulling a bit more cotton out...see if it helps....Good Luck!
Happy (vaping) Trails!

as far as i know, In protanks Rip uses Nano coils which is not 1/16 drill bit. it is 1mm (20 gauge needle, 1/16 inches = 1.5mm). Plus he used in his video 28 gauge wire not 32. So you got both parameters wrong lol (JK). If you use 1mm and 28 gauge (or 30) you will get more coverage. What's hapening with you I am assuming is that the 32 gauge is probably burning the liquid too fast. 2 thing might result from this:
1- cotton might not wick fast: even if you are not getting dry hits that does not mean you are getting full vapor. There is a transition between full saturated flavor then less flavor, no flavor and finally dry hit
2- you might be burning the liquid: By that I don't mean you are tasting burnt liquid, but by elevating the temperature in a fast pace, vapor might be produced without carrying all flavor particles which are left behind (yes im going too technical)

Anyway what you should do is try a 30 gauge, on something in between 1 and 1.5mm and I guarantee you, you will experience better flavor.
