So I am a newb with my Kayfunlite+. I have basically been utilizing two builds. Either I wrap two short ekowool silica pieces together with 28g kanthal. Or I make a micro coil and then tug some cotton ball in the center of the coil cut etc... I am having a hard time finding a good woking material for the microcoil, but I prefer building the micro coil because to me I think it is a better build overall. I tried making a coil and pulling ekowool thru it and of course I was the kid trying to fit the square in the circle shape. I have an assortment of local cotton gauze and the wives cotton balls etc. I think they all have bleach etc... I can do it and vape it but it's freaking me out... I really don't want to boil stuff. I really don't want to torch stuff. I have kids I don't need a torch around here. I have been using a cigar lighter torching the wire and the wool. I like that with the micro could you can test it with no wick as you are heating it to squish it together. Getting the impurities out. I have no issue wrapping the wire for the coil without torching. I can get it close enough and then tweezer it together when hot. I have seen the mesh and bamboo stuff and just get a no vibe for me personally, so it seems I really want to create a micro coil build, reg or chimney style, and find a good, easy way to fill it. The cotton ball rollup is certainly easy to do. But I wonder if I am getting a bunch of particles I don't want. There is not a single bag of cotton balls in my town, either by grocery or pharmacy I can find that says organic on it anywhere, much less not dyed and non-toxic.. all the buzz words I would like. I also see all this twine and cooking rope, cheese cloth, yarn, etc.. Can't someone come up with a damn product I can buy that is ready to go and the perfect stuff. No torching, boiling, mystic chants... Just ready to rock wick that fits into a micro coil well. I am not meaning to complain - I am looking for suggestions from others who might have dealt with this before me. I was looking for a hobby but not a PITA. Thanks

Here's some organic cotton from Amazon. I don't know how much shipping is, but I can tell you that a bag of this stuff should last you a long time :thumb:

Hope this helps!

ETA: I had another look at that item and found they say this;

'whitened with hydrogen peroxide'.

Just wanted to let you know. I don't mind that, but that's just me. I use gauze in micro coils that also has been treated with hydrogen peroxide. I researched it and I think it's safe to vape, but YMMV.

I didn't expect too many comments from this post and appreciate the ones I got. Finding the right wicking material is an issue that has to be addressed by everyone. I decided to boil the cotton. At least I feel safer. It doesn't take rocket science to build the coil, and I think it makes a better vape so far. I can still taste some weirdness sometimes from the cotton. I am still searching for a better solution. If I enlarge the diameter of the coil I can fit ekowool into it, but it isn't snug enough to the ekowool. As in, the same as when it is wrapped around it. The cotton just expands and hugs the coil like magic somehow.

Here is a paragraph break for you :)

Anyways thanks and vape on!

Thanks for the move, should have started there I guess. PNW Rider, Well magic or not it works and it is a different process than wrapping the wire around the ekowool for sure. Not just in diameter but in the tightness or looseness one can apply to the wrap. Thanks for your positive comment there friend. Glad everyone in the universe has this all figured out perfectly other than me lol

You are by far not alone macpeace in the search for better wicking. And just when you think you've got it, you'll probably discover something new that is better than the last best. At least this is how it's gone for me. I think that's one of the things I like most about vaping ... it keeps us thinking :thumb:

It's just my opinion, but I find with the kfl, a micro coil is not an absolute nessesity... because even with a regular coil you get great flavor by virtue of the device's excellent design. Using ekowool in a special 8 configuration on the kfl works really well.

This vid is in german, but you can just turn the sound off and watch and see what's going on. He's using regular silica, but I can attest to using eko in this config. It rocks.

You can un-roll strands of silica from regular silica wick and put them into a micro coil. It is a bit more difficult than cotton, but I'm not very impressed with the taste of cotton.

I have had more luck with wrapping a normal coil around a piece of silica and then pushing all the wraps, so they are really close together. Lastly, you can use less wraps over something with a larger diameter than 1/16." That way, it will be easier to get Ekowool through it.
