turned out to be very disappointing. We went out to dinner last night with extended family, six of us total. Went to a restaurant where we are known since it happens to be one of our local faves. It was a lovely night here in No. California so we opted to sit outside. When the waiter came to take our drink order, I whipped out my PV and politely asked if I could "vape". He knew immediately what is was, but said he had to check with the owner. After a few minutes he returned and said I wasn't allowed because it might upset the other diners. So bummed. Even my husband, who can barely tolerate my analog's, was on my side trying to convince the owner, to no avail. Oh well, as I said, disappointing, but won't stop me from trying another time and place :D

Ponygirl, don't be too discouraged. The manager was only doing what he thought best for his business. I wouldn't want to have to take the time to explain to other patrons why someone is "smoking" there... or try to stop the drunk that says "they're lighting up why shouldn't I?" We have to be a little understanding of the delimma some feel our vaping may cause in their establishment. You've planted the seed of education with them... give it time to grow.

I personally never vape where I wouldn't have smoked in the past. Yes, there's no second hand smoke, etc... but there's still a huge lack of knowledge out there.

We go by "Don't ask, Don't tell" :)

On the other hand, the places we go on a regular basis know us well, as do the other "regulars" there and we haven't encountered any problems so far. We also don't make it a big deal or flaunt it, which could make matters worse if it's seen by those who aren't familiar with them.

Noticed just last night even in a smoking bar the smokers looked at the vape with jealous eyes .You could cause a postman who smokes to do bad things if he saw you enjoying yourself while he can't in a restaurant.Seriously though the owner had just cause and did the right thing in not allowing you to vape .you did the right thing by asking.

ECF held a contest recently to design a card that could be used for just that purpose. Hopefully they'll be coming out with info on how to order / download them soon. Also, many suppliers provide cards that have basic info on the back. They come in handy when people ask questions. There are also some campaigning discussions to be found here. Mainly we're still dealing with the public on a one-to-one basis though for now.

I haven't tried at all yet. I think there's not enough information out there. I've only vaped in my car and even then I get nervous when I pass a cop, because I wonder, "do they know what this is"? Or is this officer going to pull me over because he thinks I'm smoking crack or something? LOL. I read in another thread that someone spent 36 hours in jail for it, and others have been pulled over. For that reason, my next battery will be one that looks the most like a real cigarette :p

I agree! I am only 20 (been smoking since I was 15). I don't even bother flaunting the thing around. People in my age group find it interesting but don't really care enough to investigate it. As for cops, I hide it. Being young and around parts where drugs are pretty much an extra-curricular activity, I don't need any police thinking I just engineered a new pipe.

I vape openly when I am outside but usually do not vape where I could not smoke. When in doubt, I ask. Sometimes I get a yes and sometimes a no but either way it gives me an opportunity to educate another person about vaping.

I personally am on a mission to educate as many people as possible and to present vaping in an extremely positive way.

As for policemen/women, many of them know about ecigs. The ones I have encountered at various functions have asked questions and were interested in ecigs either for their own use or a colleague/friend.

I'm going to try in a few places maybe I shouldn't. Like in the warehouse at work. And at the airport next week (SO asking permission before I try that one). The way I see it, it isn't smoking, there isn't any harm from the vapour, so why not? I use E-Lites, and they send me little cards, I guess to spread the word.

I just got back from a vacation. I vaped the whole time with no problems. On the jet, in restaurants, the metro and even in the Louvre. I did have concerns on the jet because I didn’t want to upset the smokers that were stuck on the plane for eight hours.

There are a few things that make a big difference when vaping in public. First, don’t ask. There is no need to. Done properly there is no issue. Then get smoking out of your thoughts. SMOKE has nothing to do with vaping. Unless someone proves that second hand vape is a health problem you are doing nothing wrong. In the three months that I have been vaping I have had one person try to jump on me about polluting the atmosphere by vaping. I told her to mind her own business and to put the cupcake that she was eating down because she was spreading Propylene Glycol and Vegetable Glycerin into the atmosphere every time she took a bite.

Next, be discreet. Don’t make a spectacle out of yourself. Don’t get a look on your face like you just p--ted in public. If your intent is to vape in public use a PV that doesn’t look like a cigarette. I have a VP2 that I can turn the battery around and have no LED lights. It looks like what it is, a Personal Vaporizer. I’ve even had people ask if my doctor prescribed it for me.

Next, if the situation calls for it hold the vapor in your lungs until it dissipates. When you exhale very little vapor escapes if any at all. That’s what I did on my flights. If folks don’t see plumes of vapor they don’t associate it with smoking.

I found that the people who would approach me were just very curious and I was very happy to give them an education and make recommendations. I am very grateful to be a vapor and I’m also very, very proud that I helped some folks kick the cigarette habit.

As I see it our biggest problem is that the general public has no clue about vaping. Until they are educated we are going to have to play these little games. I plan to be proactive.

I`ve yet to be approached, I vape everywhere I go. I agree with what`s being said here. Be discreet but don`t look suspicious. I haven`t tried the Pharma nic inhaler, so maybe someone can shed some light on that for me? But isn`t it a vapor? I`ve thought about telling people it was a prescribed nic. inhaler if approached, but have mixed feeling about that. For on it wouldn`t be the truth, and 2nd I believe people need to be educated about PVs.
