Hi guys, I have been smoking for the 4 years. I know it is a nasty habit and dont know how I got into it! I smoke anything from 10-13 a day. I would not consider that as a heavy smoker, but I will admit that I am hooked... have to have one 1st thing in the morning.

Anyway, enough of my background (Oh yea, im in the Uk, lol). I recieved my 1st kit today from gecigarette.co.uk (510 kit with an auto battery). I have to say I do not know if I am impressed or not :s

I have done some research, so I know that you have to 'smoke in' the atty and I think it has been getting better. Im using 14mg strength e-juice (gold & silver flavour and also menthol not at the same time).

I dont know if its the juice or the unit itself, but I kind of feel a lil sick after vaping. Am i doing anything wrong? Has anyone else experienced this? Is there any recommendations?

I really dont want to believe that this is it. I have tried quitting many times before and this to me seems like the real deal.

In advance, thanks guys for any advice you are willing to part with.

When you say you feel a little sick, what do you mean?
Headache and nausea are the primary indicators for too much nicotine.

I used to smoke between 5 and 10 cigarettes per day.
I use 12mg strength juice, and use a bit less than 1ml per day.

But if there is one thing we know here, it is that one person's nicotine strength is not necessarily indicative for another.

did you blow out the atty first? it contains primer...that'll make you feel sick. so can not drinking enough water, as vaping dehydrates you.

and like DC2 mentioned, and the most common reason for feeling ill when vaping: too much nicotine. i was a pack a day marlboro lights smoker, and started out with 18mgs. WAY too much for me...i felt super ill. i then went to 6mg...that wasn't enough, lol...i'm now at 11mgs...it's just right for me. :)

Oh yeah - is the primer gone for the atty? That stuff tastes nasty!!

If you are vaping alot - some people start vaping and don't put it down. It's not a free ride. You can't suddenly take in lots more nicotine and not suffer the side effects of too much nicotine. You need to pace yourself, or build up a tolerance to more nicotine (which i think is not very helpful), or use lower nicotine if you want to vape a lot (which unfortunately lowers the TH). I love to vape. I've been lowering my nic and just got a hotter vaping device so I can still get some throat sensation. If you are vaping a normal amount and have stopped smoking then ignore all that.

One other cause of ill feeling is the 4000 chemical and carcinogens your body is used to getting and now is not. I felt weird for a few days. Then I was fine. By weird I mean sort of not-right, similar to the feeling you get when you think you are about to get flu symptoms. Sort of achy and out of sorts. Stay hydrated, eat well, maybe take vitamins. Once you get past that part your taste buds and sense of smell will start coming back and you may get a brief surge of hunger (and a nice buffet is good for that). Then it all settles down. That was my experience anyway.

as what everyone else says maybe your nics to high.
I smoked 30-40 a day for the last 10 years and 25 a day for the 20 before that.
Don't try to stop the fags straight away i carrid on for the first five days just having about 5 a day.
Like dormouse says your only getting one of the several thousand chemicals you have been used to and i think theres another 6 alkaloids in tobacco besides nicotine.
Stick with it and maybe try a different juice or try a different kit i went through quite a few startup kits before sticking on a screwdriver.
Your in the UK take a look at TW's great kits for starters and people who are not to fussed with high voltage mods.

mudal, as you've probably noticed, vapor is never as thick as smoke, so a lot of people (me included) have a tendency to sort of overdo it. You can really ingest too much nic in a short time. I sometimes feel a little queasy, and realize I've been vaping non-stop for half an hour. It's fun, and I love the taste, but you really do have to pay attention. And a lot of people have problems with PG in their juice, so trying a VG-based juice is always my advice.
Lastly, maybe not helpful, but, I have a couple of juices that just make me sick, and I have no idea why(Essence, for one). I just can't vape 'em.
The short advice, change your juice, then your intake, see if you feel better. Hope so. Might save your life.

You have NTS!!

New Toy Syndrome. We all vape too much when we first get these. Especially if you are determined to quit cold turkey with them. Vaping became a pacifier for me! I have to wonder if that is the problem. Is it in your hand all the time? (mine was). Try to vape only a bit longer than you smoked and during the same times that you normally smoked (if you can). I gave myself permission to vape all the time, so lowered my nic level so I could.

Like DC said, even with a lower nicotine level, it is easy to get a bit too much. Feeling queasy means you need to put down the PV and make sure to drink plenty (and drink a bit more water than you usually do for a while until you get accustomed to vaping) and give vaping a break when you notice you've been on it for a while.

Also since you seem to be vaping more when you first start, take care to put a drop or two of liquid inside on your atomizer each time you refill your cartridge to keep it good and wet (especially important with the 510!) as we vape so much at first that they dry out quickly and the atty wicking fibers will scorch and give a nasty flavor that is hard to get rid of once you vape it dry.

Primer in a new atomizer will NOT make you sick if you don't blow it out. It is only Propylene Glycol (same as in e-liquid). The nasty taste that can be (but isn't always) in a new atty most likely is a very slight residue from machining oils or lubricants from making the parts of the ecig. Probably not much in them (or be sure, when the FDA tested e-cigs, that would have shown up in their report for sure). There isn't anything in primer that is going to make you sick despite what others posted above. Blowing out the primer is an option... just make sure you reprime very well with your e-liquid if you do.

And... welcome to ECF!!

Lot's of valid points in reply to your post. I don't have hard data or any great word of wisdom, so I will share my own experience.

I have been a heavy smoker for many years. I decided to try vaping after being convinced by a friend. When I started, I was "just trying" and didn't make the switch to vaping a 100% of the time. The result was a mix of feeling unsatisfied and sometimes a little nauseated after vaping for a while (and there was no way, I would replace that 1st morning cigarette!). After experimenting with different e juice flavors, I discovered that for the same nicotine strength, some were a lot more satisfying than others. Once a settled on my favorites, I had the good fortune of feeling BETTER after vaping than after smoking. The transition lasted for about 3 months and I am now a happy full time vapor.

My point is that a cold turkey switch may not be for everyone. Keep an open mind...and keep experimenting.

Good luck

I give you all the credit in the world for doing this now before too many years go by.

Could be you're vaping too much. Could be the quality of the juice. I've purchased a few kits and almost without exception the juice from the vendor where I purchased the kit- especially the prefilled carts were horrible. Nasty and extremely harsh regardless of the nic. level. Maybe I just don't like Chinese juices, who knows.

New Toy Syndrome.

Hellen: I love this term! I definitely have this.

OP: Hang in there. It's new, and I really struggled at first. By day 3 I was ready to pack it all in. It's now day 7 and a whole new ballgame. I was on about 20 cigs a day. Now I'm on two (first thing in the morning, last thing in the evening). I was told I would eventnually stop wanting those two. And I gotta be honest, I don't think I'll do the evening one anymore. For a start, last night's tasted absolutely feral, and it made me feel sick.

I also agree with swedishfish re the juices. On day 3 a friend gave me a different juice and it got so much easier for me. It was so much smoother. The first juice (from a dif vendor) was way too harsh for a new vaper to tolerate.

Stick with the vaping. It's so worth it. And come on here and ask loads of questions. It's really helped me though the tough times.

Wow thanks for the response guys! I must say it felt like the juice is a bit nasty so will definitely order some more in the morning!

The unit is not that bad, but I think I might get the bigger ones. Just came back from a lil night out and the boys are all thinking about becoming vapours themselves!

I think especially after everyones comments I will definitely try some different variations!

Will keep everyone posted!

ps I love the 'NTS' term too! haha

I've only been vaping for about a week and the same thing happened to me the first couple of days. I figured out that it was definitely the nic level. I smoked Marb Lights and started off with 24mg. Bad idea. Now I'm switching between 18 and 11. It's going much better.

I actually made a mistake in the fact that my starter kit came with 18 mg, the site didn't have stronger and I assumed I would need stronger. So I ordered from a different site and got some 24 mg stuff (free on a deal) and 28 mg stuff as well as 14 mg. I should have stuck with 14 and less as I like to vape, but the 18mg gives me a little bit of a nic buzz when I do 5 or 6 in a row. I'm actually looking foreward to working my way down the nic lvl and vape without the nicotine. That is my goal now that I haven't had a smoke since I got the unit :)
