Okay, just gave it my first try, sorry no pics though ... thought about that AFTER it was back together.

Anyway, just rebuilt my first Kanger PT 2 coil with 2mm ekowool, 32g kanthal, 5/6 wrap. Ohm meter on eVic says 2.1 ohms. Produced LOTS of vapor. I call that a SUCCESS!!! (Of course it took almost 45 minutes to do it)

Now a question, it seems to burn VERY hot! It's working fine, but after about 10 hits, the temperature alarm on the eVic went off and the base of the tank was pretty hot. Why???

My stock coils NEVER set off the temp alarm or felt this hot, and they are 2.2 ohm coils ... What is the difference?

Hmmm... I'll take a stab at it.

First though, congrats on your first build! Feels great, doesn't it!

32 Kanthal is real thin and so it gets real hot, real fast. So, I would imagine it has something to do with the resistance of your wire.
I use 28 Kanthal, 10/9 wrap micro in my PT. Usually come in around 1.3ohm without much heat build-up.

Hopefully, someone chimes in with some electrical background... so, consider it a bump.

I am no ee either but I assume same with 32 gauge getting hot. How many watts? If you have it cranked possibly cause too.

Congrats on first build btw :)

I have an evic and run 30 gauge microcoils on 1/16 drill bit, 8 or 9 wraps, 1.8 ohms every time, 7.6 watts, boiled cotton. Taste and vapor are great no dry hits or heating problems when chain vaping.

Debating I retiring pt3 and go back to pt2 build this weekend.

Thanks UnclePsyko and Sthur, I appreciate it.

I kinda dove into this headfirst, without a whole lot of research. I selected my materials based on a couple of other posts where folks had success with it.

I don't think I'm pushing it too high, the eVic was set at 8.2w, my normal setting for 2.2 ohm coils, now backed it down to 7.7, and still having the same problem.

Sthur,

Why are you considering retiring the PT 3? I was actually looking at one and thinking about buying it, what's wrong with it that you would go back to a single coil? I've heard great things about the PT 3, now I'm just confused ...

Thanks again for all the info!

what setting are you on on your evic? I do 32g kanthal, 4/5 wrap for around 1.8 Ohms and my wife's evic never sets off an alarm 5.6 to 7 watts.

Hi SupplyDaddy,

My eVic was set at 8.2, then I backed it down to 7.7, no change, same problem. I have now moved the tank over to my 3.7V regulated mod and it seems to be okay. I guess I was just overpowering the 32g kanthal, so now I am going to get some 28g and try again ... :)

The reason that you can power Kanger coils that high and not your own is that Kanger uses NR wire everything except the part that touches the wick
