Ice Castle!
You might have Mr X sample some RY4 variants. They are tobacco flavors mixed with vanilla and caramel, and often other flavors. That's what got me off the stinkies. I found one that had a maple-ish flavor that wasn't cloying, and it had a nice, soft tobacco flavor in the background. A lot of folks start off on RY4's, so your X migt have some success with it.
hmm... okay... I will try it :)

Northern NJ native , Coastal NC now.
When i saw the title "first rookie mistake" i instantly thought that your finger must have slipped off the end of a new spool of Kanthal wire and you got completely entangled and had to call "911" for assistance .

Well, thats what happened to me at least . Carry on

I'm only a beginner but I've already learned you'll never find something that tastes like material that's on fire!

That said, I've tried various tobacco juices (and have more coming tomorrow). I've already established I prefer the smoothness and thick vapour of a VG-heavy liquid rather than the harsh throat hit of PG (you'll find plenty on line about this, but it's quite key to work out which he prefers).

My current tobacco juice is a mix of Jac Real Tobacco and DV American Red, both 12mg. It's not perfect, but it served its purpose yesterday with a few drinks when I usually would have smoked lots of cigs.

Today though, just one week in, I've only had a little blast on the tobacco juice, I'm far happier chugging away on some juicy DV Orangella!

Don't get disheartened! I smoked for 40 years before I entered the wonder world of vaping. Some pointers:
Don't try to emulate cigarettes, you can't! Instead go with something with a bit of a tobacco undertone, like VCT
Find an eliquid they love, mine was a mint, tasted like gum and I could vape it all day.
Make sure the process isn't too complicated. Our old hands can't manipulate all those tiny pieces.
Progress, not perfection...... I went from 3 to 4 packs a day down to 5 cigs a day. I know, I know, why not just give up those 5? I am not sure why, but I can't. And it took me 2 years to get down to those 5.

One last thing.... if this is something that a smoker doesn't want to do, you can spend a lot of time and money and get absolutely no where. Involve them in the process of selecting flavors, maybe try to unravel their taste buds.... if they are truly interested, than you will hit on a satisfying substitution, and then give it some time.

Do they really taste like ciggs? sorry new here... Needa find more info on vaping... Very heavy smoking trying to find alternative here...

Not really, but some flavors are close and taste WAY better. I've heard liquid w/o any added flavor is supp to be close since you only taste the nico but havent tried it.

Will make sure he is well stocked up when he gets back, unless he stumbles across a vape shop in France.

I just heard those magic words (voluntarily) from Mr X....the smoke stick tastes like ....!

There are plenty of vape shops in France these days and almost all the Tabacs sell basic ego type ecigs and liquids (in case of emergency) - I hope all goes well for Mr X and his vaping :)
