Short story: Smoked Newports for 13 years, switched to vaping Friday and haven't smoked a cigarette since Friday (today is Monday). Did a lot of research on ECF before I ordered and just wanted to post my story and experiences. I ordered the eGo/CE4 kit from smoktek.com. Ordered it late Tuesday night and received it in the mail Friday. I will be making another purchase today for more clearos and liquids, maybe a eGo twist too.
Long Story:
My (first) order of vaping goods came in Friday. Prior to this, I had never tried vaping or e-cig of any kind. I smoked two cigarettes Friday night mixed with some vaping, but I haven't smoked a cigarette since. So I'm on day 3 and it looks like I'll be able to stay off the cigarettes as long as I have my PV. And to be honest, I don't really crave a cigarette that often. Mainly just in the situations where I always smoked. I always loved to smoke in my truck. I have an intersection about 2 blocks from my house where I would light up every time. I never was a chain smoker, but if I had just put out a cigarette before I left the house, I would still have to light one up out of habit at this intersection. This weekend I just vaped instead and kept the cold A/C where it belonged....inside the truck with me.
So here's a little back story: I smoked Newports for 13-14 years, about a pack a day but usually a little less (15-18 cigs). Never really tried to quit because I knew it wouldn't work. I've seen people use all sorts of methods to quit but the few people I know that actually quit smoking, it was because of an illness. Basically they had the choice of smoke or live and they chose life. Everyone else comes back smoking more than they did before they quit. I always thought something would happen one day (to a friend or family or myself) that would trigger me to quit and I would never touch a cigarette again. Nothing ever did. I'm only 31 years old, but I have always believed I wasn't meant to be a smoker. I love the outdoors, fishing and hunting, I grew up playing sports so it just didn't fit my lifestyle.
Both my parents smoked and smoked inside growing up and I always hated cigarettes, so I'm not sure how or why I started. It's crazy how you can hate something so much as a child, can't understand why your parents would do that to themselves, then as soon as you're of age you pick up the habit and can't put it down. I have kids of my own now (6 and 8 years old) and I'm hoping when they're in their teens they won't have any memories of dad smoking cigarettes. Or if they do, at least it will be distant memories.
I work with my dad. He smokes 2 packs a day and we're only supposed to take one break before lunch and one break after. I was able to adhere to this rule for the most part, but he would sneak out several times a day and he's been caught on several occasions. We're pretty secure in our jobs, so it's not really an issue of losing our jobs over it, but he got tired of the managers bringing it up, so he asked me about e-cigs. I had done some research about a year ago, but never followed through with it. He asked me about V2 e-cigs and told me to order some for him and if I wanted to try it, he would buy me a starter kit.
After hours of research, mainly on this forum, I decided to toss the idea of the V2's and get an Ego CE4 kit from Smoktek.com for $22 (3 actually, one for my dad, my wife, and myself). Also grabbed some liquids (tabacco flavor for my dad and menthol for me and my wife) and 3 extra clearomizers. I didn't want to sink too much money into it if I wasn't going to stick with it. I can't speak for my dad or my wife, but I'm done with cigarettes so I'm about to order some more goodies (battery, liquids, clearos, etc).
My thoughts on my first vape: It was more "smokey" than I expected. I read a lot of info about how you can't really compare the smoking experience to the vaping experience and I understand what they mean, but I was caught off guard by how similar the feeling in my throat and lungs were. I had also read about the headaches, dizzyness, and getting light headed due to the nicotine (higher level, and/or more pure). So I took it easy and slow, but I did "feel" the nicotine unlike my cigarettes. It was like a small headache with some dizzyness that lasted maybe 10 minutes. After only 2 days, I can pretty much vape all I want without these side effects anymore, so this is just a temporary problem. I'm sure everyone's experience will differ here. I started with 18mg nic, but wish I would have ordered some 12mg to start off with, because those first couple of days you just want to puff on it like a baby on a passifier when those cravings hit, but you're cautious because headaches are not fun.
I didn't say it would be an interesting story, but I just wanted to get my first post out there and share my experience. Looking forward to learning more from you guys and gals as I continue my journey.
