JLynn, I don't know your reasons for wanting to stay nicotine-free, but if it's concern about the effect on your health, please do some research on the harm vs. benefits of nicotine. There really are some good reasons not to give it up, especially if you have issues around anxiety or depression. We tend to think of nicotine only in terms of addiction and the unhealthy habit of smoking, but it is not in itself harmful unless you have some pre-existing condition like severe heart disease. Of course, using any drug -- nicotine, caffiene, aspirin -- is a very personal decision and doesn't have to be rationalized or explained to anyone else.

I bought two different types of brands and several different flavors and nic levels, I think getting a flavor you like combined with the right nic level to satisfy your cravings will go a long way towards success. I've smoked for 30 yrs and I must be lucky because this just works for me. I won't lie and say I still don't want a real one but this works well enough that I won't. I've been conditioning my thinking for quite some time in getting ready to quit and tapered back on my regular smoking for some time before I made this leap and that I think might be a part of my success too?? Good luck buddy.

katdarling - I was just putting on makeup and one of the instruments kept getting stuck and I couldn't close the drawer...wanted a cigarette LOL I can SOOOO relate!!
Phone rings - most definitely. Smoking is what my sister and I DID you know - that was our social time!! I feel like there is this weird space between us now because she still smokes so I go to her house now and we stand in the kitchen and talk...strange! LOL
You are right DD, this is an addiction and I need to treat it as such - 2 and 1/2 months is not that long.
I would much rather reach for an ecig than the real thing so I just ordered my K808 I think? Can't remember the name but it was the simple one which is what I need. If I have to do drops etc I just won't do it. Oh and I got a cool coffee flavor YUM!
So how many of you realize how much more TIME you have in your life now that you're not smoking analogs???

You are getting excellent support and advice....I would add that for me the idea of adding juice etc. just sounded so complicated. I got myself a BloogMaxxFusion and a Vapor4Life Diamond and have been happy with both of them. Just pop on a cartridge and vape. It is simple and easy. You might start out with a low nicotine RY4 flavor and then try other flavors. I love the chocolate. I have only been doing this for a month, still have an occasional desire for a "real" smoke, but am doing ok for the first time in 30 years of smoking almost a pack a day. Best wishes and keep up being smokefree.

"I quit smoking x amount of time ago and I don't miss it at all"

That's the big lie that nearly all ex-smokers perpetuate. It's simply not true. Everyone I know on a close personal level that used to smoke still has cravings. My mother who has been smoke free for ~13 years has at least one really bad craving a week. I went back to smoking after well over a year off after having several really bad things go wrong one week. I got to a point in my mind of, "Either I'm smoking or killing myself at least with smoking I'll get another chance to quit" I don't think the psychological factors ever go away as much as I hate to say it.

That being said, I definitely feel like PVs feel close enough to deal with these kind of urges.

Whatever you decide regarding the ecig - don't go back to the regular ones. Mark Twain once said that quitting smoking was the easiest thing he ever did - he must have quit over 100 times...but seriously, after many unsuccessful attempts, it is not only easy to quit with an ecig - i don't even desire the other kind. Good luck and welcome to the forum.

Wow, I just realized how accurate my description of that craving for a cigarette was. I hope that doesn't make it worse for anyone, haha!

It's funny, every time I tried to quit, I just WANTED a cigarette, so much that I finally gave in. I'd smell cigarette smoke & it just smelled so good, I had to have one.

After vaping for six months, I HATE the smell of cigarette smoke. I never thought that would happen, and that is how I know that not only does vaping work for me, but at this point, even if I were forced to stop vaping, I would never go back to smoking cigarettes. Which is even more amazing to me because my husband still smokes, and I have absolutely no desire to ever light one up.

:toast:

P.S. FDA, if you are reading this, do not think that my above confession in any way supports your efforts to ban e-cigs. Over my dead body, and I plan on living quite a while!!

Can't really add much that hasn't already been said, but yes there are definitely ecigs worth the price and then some. The Blu has some less than stellar reviews but many people start with them because they are good at advertising. I am currently using an Ego t and love it. It's super easy to use and does the job for me.

As for the cravings, panic attacks, etc. that is pretty normal. That's the psychological game your mind is playing. You've always had your "friend" cigarettes to calm your body down. Now that's gone and your mind isn't happy about it. It can take years to get over that psychological craving and that is what usually drives people back to cigs. The physical WDs go away pretty quick and most people can handle that. Trust me after trying to quit cold turkey many times, I can relate.

Take the wonderful advice on here and get yourself an ecig. You won't regret it. Be strong and just don't go back to those nasty analogs. You've made it this far, don't give up. Good luck!!!

Hi JLynn. Hang in! An ex-smoker is a smoker that doesn't smoke tobacco. When you have an urge, take a walk around the block. If it doesn't help, take another round.

IF you think that an e-cig would help you better, get like a KR-808D-1 from Vapour4Life - AND 0 nicotine cartomizers with a fruity taste. Don't even have an emergency supply of >0 nic. If 2,5 month in this situation doesn't help, try 2mg. Definitely no need to start any nicotine build-up unless absolutely necessary. Just MHO. :)

Good luck.

It is unfortunate that you didn't get at least one manual battery.

Automatic batteries can be a real challenge to get them to work right.
They are often the cause of people thinking their electronic cigarette is junk when it isn't.

So when you get it, if you are having trouble getting it to work, or getting it to work consistently, don't give up.

Stand in front of a mirror and watch the little light as you inhale.
You will need to learn how hard to draw to get it lit, and how hard to draw to keep it lit long enough for a decent drag.

Also, some automatic cigarettes have a cutoff which limits the length of your draw.
If you wind up hitting that limit before you get a satisfying drag, you are going to become very frustrated.

All this can be avoided with a manual battery, which is MUCH easier to use than an automatic.
The little button takes about 30 minutes to become second nature.

EDIT: Check out this poll for more information: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/polls/64101-manual-automatic-batteries.html?

definite +1 for manual batteries. I didn't like having to suck hard to ages to get a decent 'puff' on the DSE901 automatic, with my Riva901 automatic I can choke myself to death! I am desperate for the Ego-T but I think I'll kill myself, I LOVE big lungfuls of vape (strawberry all the way) and sometimes hold the button down for so long I think its going to melt :)

This thing tastes so good I want to eat it!
