The LED provides the color, the jewel at the end is clear. The purple shows much better with these than with the gray ashcaps.

I believe the voltage drop across the LED(or lack thereof) will have a negligible affect on how long the battery maintains a charge.
I also can't tell a difference in strength between the No LED and LED versions of these batts.

Ok, so I had to have the red with white crystal LED. Actually, as much as I am a manual lover, I do like the autos for when I want to slip one into my jeans pocket. The xl autos are pretty good!
Got myself a Red/Red and a Black/Purple... the hubby got a Blue/White. I can't wait!
I don't usually do autos, but I'll prob put an order in sometime this week to give them a try.
Is there anything mechanically different with these batteries? How is the suction? Autos notoriously give me headaches when I have to suck so hard.

That is a hard question to answer. IMO opinion they work better because the switch is more sensitive and they have a smooth draw. I'm not really an auto user, but Steve only uses autos and he loves these.
