Here are two media summaries of the 2014 American E-Cigarette Etiquette Survey by Harris Interactive.

All links broken for safety, but you can put them back together by cutting and pasting them (your browser will ignore the extra line).

Both opponents of, and advocates for inside vaping restrictions will find something to cite in these.

I can't find the original poll, apparently Harris hasn't released it yet. But I'm sure it will hit the mainstream press by tomorrow.

Apparently the survey was commissioned by the makers of Mistic ecigs.

More proof, IMO, that the ANTZ are creating their very own tempest in a teapot (they alone are responsible for creating the "ecig epidemic), whereas John Q. Public really isn't all that worked up about it. In all the ecig polls I've seen in the past year, every single one comes out with 58-98% of respondents answering, in one way or another, "I don't have a problem with ecigs."

It will be interesting, though, to see the actual poll and specifically how the questions and choice of answers were worded.

My personal poll was taken with only serious anti-smoking people being polled. Not one had any problem with E cig vapor and most liked the faint smell of strawberry cheesecake or chocolate in the air. Some heavy tobacco flavors, however, don't get the overwhelming positive response so I usually add a bit of sweetness to cover the tobacco.

With only one exception, every person who took my personal poll said they 1) couldn't smell anything in my vapor, 2) had no problem being in the same room with me as I vaped, and 3) were delighted that I'd switched. The exception answered the same for 1 and 2 but negatively to 3) on moral grounds (turns out she's a closet ANTZ...). Hmmm...

Personally, I think several generations have been programmed to hate the *smell* of cigarette smoke and to associate that smell, and by extension the appearance of smoke, with DANGER. And by extension, they've been programmed to hate the smoker. And now the vaper.

All of which may be true my dear 99 (just kiddin' - you get the j/k) ... but all it takes is a tiny fraction of ignorant and/or terrified and/or Puritanical people - however one might view them. They'll raise one heck of a racket. The bigger the cloud, the more frightened or morally-outraged they get (and therefore the louder they scream).

Most of those very same folks probably wouldn't care much if they were in a bar or a restaurant with a separate vaping section. Or if there were a designated vaping area right down the hall from where they worked. They wouldn't care because they wouldn't notice: it's the actual contact with the cloud that sets them off (or perhaps even just the mere possibility of contact).

Unfortunately ... when they scream to high heaven ... the non-vaping authorities (and by that I mean pols and private-sector decision-makers) will consult their local ANTZ. Who can be relied upon to confidently assert that vaping is not known to be less harmful to the user or the bystander than smoking.

Which may be a big part of the reason why outside vaping is banned in many public parks, privately-owned parking lots, college and commercial campuses, and disallowed within twenty-five feet from Chicago doorways ... as well as why there are no indoor designated vaping areas anywhere here in the states.

To everything you say, I say: Exactly!

I believe it has been proven that "secondhand" vapor is not dangerous; if it were, I would be careful not to expose *anyone* else to my exhalations. Faced with what seems at times like overwhelming opposition to ecigs, I especially enjoy my small moments of triumph as I vape in restrooms everywhere. Never a comment from others in the same location. Why? Because they don't notice!
