So I've seen pictures of older Woodvils, and they all had an on/off switch. Which essentially was the locking mechanism, correct? Now the new ones have a button similar to the Reo Grand and Mini if I understand correctly. What I don't get though is how does that work with the button on the side? Woodvils are beautiful, but I've always been turned off by a wired button in a mech mod. Maybe the new ones are what I've been waiting on. Pictures would be greatly appreciated to help me understand.

The new Woodvil's button twists and locks just like the Grands do. The button is fully mechanical. The only wire is for the negative side of the battery.
Mine isn't on me at the moment to share pics of it though.

Nice! Full mechanical button is the only way to go in a mech, IMO. I wouldn't want the limitations of the other types of switches. I like my mods to be simple enough that I can fix them fairly quick on my own if I need too. Some pics would be cool if you get time at some point. Just curious as to the set up, I'm having a hard time picturing how a full mechanical switch would work from the side.

There's a piece that's connected to the positive tube, then it takes a 90º turn down the side. The fire button pushes another contact to touch that piece. You know what, that still doesn't complete the circuit!! Yeah I'll have to take another look when I get home and snap a pic, unless someone else does so before then.

Ok so there is a short wire from the switch to the positive terminal

I'm not sure why; I'm no electrical engineer. But the '15 Woodvils hit every bit as hard, some believe they hit harder, than the metal Reos.
In a metal REO, the aluminum body is the conductor for the negative side of the circuit. In the Woodvil, the copper wire is the conductor. Copper is a better conductor than aluminum. Plus I think the switch design on the Woodvil allows for better continuity, I can't get that thing to arc no matter how hard I try!!

Yes, I understand that copper is a better conductor; but I'd have thought the mass of the aluminum body on the metal Reo would more than make up for the fact. To be honest, before getting my first Woodvil, I expected it to hit somewhat less than the metals. But needless to say, I was wrong.

Ok so there is a short wire from the switch to the positive terminal

To clarify, the wire goes from the positive battery contact to the positive contact base block.... the switch itself is 100% mechanical

not up on all the terms so one of y'all may have said this....... but the wire goes from the button/switch to the +contact, then continues around to underneath the spring.

Well If I turn the fire button anticlockwise it locks and clockwise to unlock.
Inside looks like this - tried to lighten it up to see better.
Think this is a mechanical switch - previous mech I had was a hybrid. This woodvil hits better I build to 0.4Ω unlike the 0.3Ω I needed for same results on hybrid mech.
