22g vs 28g kanthal

I see a lot of sub ohm set ups using 20g or 22g. What are the advantages of using 22g over 28g for a coil other than the lower resistance?

I find it harder to work with 22g compared to 28g. The thicker wire is less malleable. Someone told me that the taste generated by 22 g is better than 28g, but taste is subjective.
