i would think shops would cater to new vapers since by the time they are sub-ohming many have figured out they can buy everything online at half the price or less.

This is an easy problem to fix. Just buy a bottle of 100mg concentrate and boost it up. Of course that leads one to full blown DIY after they learn they can make premium juice for $1/oz.

I never noticed this trend since I've made my own juice for the last 9 months. Lol

I'm not sure that's the case any longer. The people I see vaping on the streets rarely have cigalikes. The shift seems to be dramatic and may be what is driving the OP's experience.
I still see a lot of ego style gear. Are you suggesting most brand new users start with high power gear that needs less than 12mg?

It's the same thing that most of our local vape shops tell us. They say that .6 will be the highest because the market is moving to sub-ohm and as such most will only want .6 (personally I sub ohm my 12mg just fine).

And along the same lines I went into one of our local vape shops and asked if he had any Kangertech SubTanks in stock. He told me "That's yesterdays news man, today is this (insert name here that I've already forgotten), this is todays equipment, nobody wants the old stuff anymore".

Funny, I could still go buy the old stuff in tobacco products, but it seems many local vape shops want to be the sign of the times and only cater to hobbyists (of whom many of them have to have the latest and greatest even though they've already got 50+ tanks and drippers sitting there unused - because it's yesterdays news?) instead of catering to both hobbyists as well as those that are vaping for other than hobby reasons.

It often feels as if this is turning into more of a trendy (see my Chihuahua in my handbook) sort of thing that either forces you to become a hobbyist or not be able to get what has worked for you and which you enjoy using.

These are consumer products, so there will always be a 'latest & greatest' shinyitis spiel coming from somewhere.

I wouldn't give my hard-earned money to a salesperson who puts his bottom line above my needs. For crying out loud, he doesn't even know the market; the Kanger Subtank lines are some of the best-selling tanks at the moment, especially since they're bundled with the Subox kit.

He may know his market well. His market may be a relatively small group of customers that already own subox's from when they were the new mod of the week and are all on to the next latest and greatest. Still doesn't explain what they sell to newbies

Absolutely. I don't know the customers he caters to. Maybe he only sells to experienced drippers. It just sounds odd because sub-ohm tanks are ubiquitous among vapers.

To say that the Kanger Subtank line is becoming obsolete is akin to saying that all comparable tanks are becoming obsolete as well. The market indicates that the exact opposite is true. Especially when such a wide swath of vaping styles can be accommodated with a tank (MTL or S2L, sub-ohm or >1Ω, TC or non-TC, prebuilt or RDA/RTA, etc.).

I drip on a mech or regulated mod a lot when I'm home, but that's the only time I'm not using a tank. They're too convenient. And having 'enough' tanks won't stop me from buying more tanks. There's a serious market for it, and just a cursory glance online or a stroll through a local B&M affirms this. There's also a strong push from manufacturers to create a market for tanks due to the accessories (prebuilt coils, replacement parts) putting easy money in their pockets day in, day out.

This salesperson may be catering to a specific niche in the market, and if that's the case then what he said was true. But if he was referring to where he thinks the market is right now, then he doesn't know it.

I think that many brand new users start at convenient stores. But, the four local B&M's I've been in seem to favor box mods with VW tubes and mechs coming in second and third. If they have cigalikes, I've never noticed. I don't see manual batteries any longer.

My wife just started vaping, surprising me. She came into the store with me and sat at the juice bar then picked out a device. She wanted the "orange one" which happened to be a vision spinner II. They suggested a Nautilus Mini for her, and I let her be sold. I think beginners want simple, and didn't want to risk confusing her with my opinion.

She was vaping for a day and a half when the battery died. I let her use my old Vamo, and she preferred it. Then I let her use my 30w Hana clone, and she liked that even more. It just becomes about the vape quality.

But, I've always thought that most people use Ego or lesser devices. It's only been recently, that I've seen the dramatic switch. Two summers ago I was at a wedding where everyone had manual 510's. A few months back, I was at a casino and a large group of us were all vaping box mods with Atlantis tanks. I honestly think Aspire killed the cigalike.
