So I'm looking to dive into the mech mod world. I'm currently vaping an Evic Supreme with either a Kayfun Lite or my nautilus Aspire on it. Obviously the kayfun blows the Nautilus out of the water, but the Nautilus is nice for extended trips and consistent vapor quality (I'm having wicking issues with my kayfun).

Anyway, I hear good things about the Stingray or Hades mods in 26650. These things are impossible to find though. Any suggestions on clones, or should I look for authentic. Maybe there's something else that I don't even know about.

As for the dripper, I'm looking for something in 28mm to fit nice and even. I've read reviews in the Igo-m, Tobh, and mega rda. Any ideas here? Are there options out there as these are difficult to find as well.

Thanks guys, I'm looking forward to hearing from you.

Sven,

Recently took the plunge into 26xxx land myself. Though on the expensive side, have a look at Super T's 26500 or 26650 simplicity. They offer a slanted top that will make your existing 22mm toppers look nice. I've been quite pleased with mine thus far. The switch is simply fantastic to use and the machining is among the best I've seen. I will note that their design requires the use of an o-ring in the base to accommodate different battery lengths -- but once you get used to it, it works out fine.

Much as I like my simplicity, I would be remiss not to note the newest guy in town, the Ox, by fogmonsterz. This will be the shortest 26650 you can buy, at 85mm (to put that in perspective, it is the same height as my 26500 simplicity). This height savings is accomplished with a semi-hybrid style cap with no firing pin (the 510 pin on the atty makes direct contact with the battery). This means you will need to be very careful about which toppers you use -- if the pin does not protrude enough from the 510 ring, you can get a hard short. I don't know if these are available just yet, but they should be in the next week or two, and I imagine people will be jumping on them straight away. Here's a review from Todd:

Now, some ideas on toppers. First thing, note that there seem to be two competing widths out there-- 28.5mm (like my simplicity) and 30mm (like the ox). So if a flush fit is important to you, make sure to match this to whatever topper you buy. I've found some good matches for my simplicity. First, tobeco has come out with a 28.5mm kayfun clone. It looks perfect atop my mod, holds 15ml of juice, and when paired with a high mah battery, you vape for days at a time with no filling or charging. The only downside is the size of the resulting rig. Even with the 26500 version of the simplicity, once I put that tobeco on top, the result is something too big to take out and about. But I use it as my main vape next to the couch and couldn't be happier. And while I am not generally a fan of clones, I have to say this tobeco version is all around excellent. Vapes *exactly* like my original svoemestos -- and cost me all of 35 bucks.

As to drippers, check out the 28.5 mm Armor by manbo -- also very affordable. Here's a review by todd:

And should you instead end up with a 30mm mod, have a look at the asmodus:

While there is no 30mm version of the kayfun, you could either put up with the small ledge you'll get when using the 28.5mm tobeco, or you could consider a kanger aerotank giant:

Hope this helps! Good hunting, and let us know how it works out!

PS: I own three original kayfuns and have had *no* issues with wicking. I run them with 28 gauge micro coils, 7 wraps on a 5/64th drill bit, for around 1 - 1.1 ohms. I position the coil such that it if the terminal screws are North and South, the coil is sitting as close to east to west as I can get it. I then use organic cotton balls, rolled such that they pass through the coil with just the slightest resistance. Do not use too much cotton! I then cut the wick such that enough remains to make good contact with the decks below -- and NO MORE. I wet the wick and with the edge of a syringe, shape it so that it touches the deck without blocking the juice channels, and then assemble the chimney and tank. On first fill, I cover the air hole and gently suck until I see a bubble or two rise in the tank -- and then proceed to vape my face off.

If I do get any dry hits, which almost never happens, I tighten the airflow down just a nudge or two. This means that with each draw, you are bringing more juice up into the chamber because of the increased suction. And if even that fails, you may be using a really thick juice. Try adding a tiny bit of water to your mix - will thin it out and improve wicking.

With this set up, I can chain vape the entire tank and never get even one dry hit. (And btw, on those rare occasions when I get a gurgle that won't clear, I will relax the draw just a bit, problem solved). Hope this helps! Kayfuns rule!

Tks Smoking and Joe,

Great info there. After I broke the babk buying the evic Supreme and an authentic kayfun I am interested in high quality clones for both the mod and the topper.

I will see if I can find either of your suggestions and see which I like the most.

Ps. The wicking on my kayfun is most likely a function of me using to much cotton. I am experimenting now with using as little as possible and hopefully I can find the sweet spot. I'm vaping my 0.9 Ohm coil (28g) at 17 watts which ends up a measly 3.91 V and this is still burning the cotton.

You cannot go wrong with the super t 26650 simplicity. Awesome device! I own two of them, both the polished version and the ribbed version. The machining is perfect and the device works flawlessly. If you want good quality in a mod, something that will last a long time, then I would suggest buying one. There is also a 26500 version too. I own a few of the super t products and they are all I use.

Sven,

Most of the toppers I recommended are indeed cheap -- not so much with the mods I suggested. Maybe have a look at the 26650 stingray black clone. Some folks have reported they needed to clean the switch up a bit, but otherwise seems like a solid choice and not too expensive.

On your kayfun, I'm curious -- if you back off the watts, say to 13 or so, does the burning issue go away? If so, that tends to rule out a hardware problem (eg blocked channels or over-filled tank leading to lock). I will note that I've seen others report that kayfuns don't tend to like to run at high wattage -- many report a max of 15 before burning. I can push mine beyond that by a bit, but not a lot -- up to around 18 or so, on my DNA. This also explains why on a mech, I seem to have the best experiences while keeping the coil above 1 ohm (the sweet spot seems to be 1.1 to me). If you figure a good mech will hit the coil with an effective 3.9 volts (figuring for voltage drop) with a fresh battery, that equals, low and behold, right around 15 watts.

So, I agree, play some more with how you wick your cotton and try backing off on watts. If you can't find joy-joy that way, then try coiling at around 1.1 or 1.2 and see if that helps (and after much experimentation, that would certainly be my recommendation if you are going to stick your kayfun on a mech). Remember, the kayfun is not a dripper, and you don't need to sub-ohm to get the best performance it can deliver. If you want huge, hot sub-ohm cloud goodness, use your RDAs. The kayfun produces good vapor but not huge plumes of it -- and *fantastic* taste... that really is its calling card. And remember, you can also up the intensity of your vape with higher PG ratios, higher nic levels and/or stronger flavors -- or alternatively, you can increase your cloud girth by upping the VG. There are lots of ways to get to that perfect vape for you -- watts are only one piece of the puzzle and imho, at 17, you are right on the high edge of what the kayfun was ever designed to deliver in the first place.

I have a Hades and love it. It's all copper except the contacts those are silver plated. It is a very low resistance mod. What you want. I have one from Vapor tek and one on order from Fasttech. For a rba I'd go with the Fogger V4 big a 28mm being released this month. For an RDA I'd go with the big Tobh. Can't beat the posts on the Tobh. DO NOT GET THE FASTTECH Tobh. The 28mm FT Tobh has crappy posts. OH the FT Hades has magnets and all copper contacts.

Yesterday I watched a review of a Nemesis 14500 version in copper or stainless steel by Twisted420. He mentioned that a 26650 Nemesis version is in the works now. I would love to have either that one or the Mutant as shown here Mutant 26650 Mod Clone - On9Stop.com

Hcigar has a new Helmsman 26650 mod that baiscally looks like a 26650 nemesis appears to be the same switch. While my 18650 nemmy works great I don't care for the button all that much, I polished the buttons internals and put in good mangnets and it fires smooth but feels kind spongy, not near as good as the button on my sentinel m16's or panzer...

This is why I didn't jump on the Helmsan or Stingray Bandwagon. I wish I could find a mutant to look at locally or purchase. I hate to buy it and find out the pins suck, the switch sucks or something else. I don't return things especially when it comes to clones but now after buying a good number of them I'm getting a bit picky. I did get to in person check out the fat snow wolf authentic and it was amazing, guy wouldn't sell it to me either! LOL

I have a Big Nasty with the DNA30 add on and also started into the world of 28.5mm attys. I had a TOBH and lots of Kayfuns that I liked so those were the large versions that i bought first. The Kayfun is a Kayfun, just with a larger tank. The TOBH on the other hand did not have the same flavor, likely due to the far larger chamber.

That's all I got so far.
