I've mostly used tanks but now I want to start building coils on my mutation rda and doge rda. I'm looking to want to build between a 0.2 and 0.3 ohm coil. How many wraps and what drillbit size should I use? Thanks! :)
Unless you like extreme heat, or have a VW device where you can run less than the Ohm's law parity value of 59 watts... 26 gauge is too thin for the resistance. The heat flux for a 26 gauge dual parallel, 0.3Ω net resistance build at 59 watts is a hot 435 mW/mm².

If all you have is 26 gauge, either increase the net resistance slightly to reduce OL parity wattage, reduce wattage below Ohm's law if you have a VW mod, or go with a thicker wire.

A 0.4Ω build with 26 will draw 44 watts at 4.2v and provide a heat flux of 243 mW/mm².

A 0.3Ω build, but with 25 gauge, will provide a still warm, but more tolerable heat flux of 307 mW/mm².

26g Kanthal is my go to wire. My sweet spot is 5-8 wraps on a 2.5mmID. It gets a little squishy when you do your crimpin but man she sure is a fine vape with good positioning and wicking.

I put it in RDAs and RTA's. It goes anywhere. It's easy to work with. You can hand wrap it or gizmo wrap it---either way.

Try all kinds of builds with it. The stuff is sturdy. Lasts long. I like the resistance it yields. Do some nanos and some macros. Do some specialty coils with it- Have fun.

Good luck!

More of my coils are with 26 than any other. They run between .3 and .4, tanks and drippers. To go lower you need to go with 24 or 22.

On my MX, I use 24 and 22, 3mm, 4 or 6 wraps. The 22 is .18, the 24 is .25

Scratch that last one. I just took it part and did a 26 with 7 wraps for .3.
Its a much more enjoyable vape now. ;?)

I had a friend that built me a dual coil build at .23 ohms and I loved it. I could probably move up to .5 if I had to though.

What are you using for power?

Use steam engine coil calculator to figure out your builds.

If you want a dual coil with .2 or .3 ohms, your best bet is to twist them before hand. Look up youtube tutorials on how to do it. Honestly with 26ga wires though, I wouldnt go less than .5 ohms. I find the coils burn out too fast at less than that and generally its not an enjoyable vape for me. Thats my preference.

Here's a ~0.3Ω 26AWG build, 2mm ID. Works great in a Derringer. Warm, but not hot. Not a ton of wire but it ramps up very quickly and cools down quickly. I build with 22AWG, 24AWG, and twisted 26AWG often but single stranded 26 has it's place, even at fairly low resistance.

edit: for comparison purposes, here is a ~0.26Ω 24AWG build in another of my Derringers. Doesn't ramp up as fast but definitely vaporizes some juice. FWIW, I use these on mechs (Reos).

I just ordered a mutation and doge rda from fasttech so I'll be building on those. I plan on running both rdas on a tugboat and istick 50w.

oh, so the tugboat is a mech mod then? at first I thought the tugboat was a tugboat rda.

some coil builds are going to be able to work or the mech but not on the istick.
