Start here.

Then lightly roll your cotton in your hand, then twist one on the ends together between fore finger and thumb. Pull through coil. You want to make sure the cotton is snug, but not too snug. Then clip the twisted end off. I like to then "flay" the ends a little, then tuck under that coil. To do that to each coil and you should be good.
Wicking is rather subjective though. And is dependent on your coil build. Play around with it and you'll find what works for you.
I use 1/8th and up drill bits, but I use 24 ga Kanthal usually.

Yeah the tinkering will take a bit of time I can see tht! Just got back from e-cig shop n he says my coils look good ,just flooded the wick a bit much so he fired it a little till it wasn't like tht any more.gunna wait till this coil is done for then throw in the one I have built tht is good then I'll b trying 1/8 drill bit to get my wicking down then if it comes to it I'll drop to 16th n figure it all out as I go. DAVES E-CIG in Napa is a great place to go to learn,he knows what he's doing nd has helped with the things I need.this is gunna b a learning process for sure

Well there is no hard rule on coil ID.. If the coil can be fit into the build area it can be any ID. The coil you want should be 5 or 6 wraps on a 1/8" mandrel, Coil wrapping | Steam Engine | free vaping calculators. Personally I would do about a 2mm and 7-8wraps, and about 1/2 of a 1" piece of unrolled cotton ball in my Kayfun.

try and get one end of the cotton twisted into a point so you can pull it through but you wanna get the wick pretty much spot on or a very little bit thicker than your coil id, all depends on your wick density, not to thick and not to loose, you will eventually get the goldilocks range easily every time, or failing that you could use another piece of wire looped over to pull your wick through
