2mm (5/64) silica, coil diameter?

Hi

Without researching I built a 2 mm coil, but the 2 mm silica didn't work well in that one. By googling I found a thread somewhere about a guy using a 1.5 mm (1/16) coil for the 2mm silica. Is that right?

It was pretty easy to get the silica thru the 2mm coil, but I guess I need tape to get it thru a smaller coil. Would be grateful for advice about which kind of tape is best.

Would be nice with a wick that can last a whole 100 ml (3.38 oz.) bottle in my KFL+.

Yes the coil ID will be slightly smaller than the diameter of the wick. I would use a doubled over piece of 2 or 3mm silica in a 2mm coil. Easy way to thread silica is with a wire or sewing needle.

FWIW, just because silica, can be used for 100ml or more with cleaning.. That doesn't mean you will get 100ml of vaping or even 10ml, before you need to rewick because the coil is fouled/gunked.

Thanks. Will use a double 2 mm silica in a 2 mm coil then, if I understood it right, or would it work better in a 3 mm coil?

You want enough wick to fill the coil, the wick should be able to slide back and forth in the coil with a little resistance. To tight will result and choked coil and burning, to loose poor wicking and burning. FWIW, a tripled over 2mm wick is the same diameter as a doubled over 3mm. I would go with the 2mm.
